Mannix is the one who originally broke the news that the Rockets were looking to extend Yao this season. I think those tweets are more of him sticking to his story of the Rockets looking to retain Yao long term.

Not to mention that Yao, as a truck, still might have great trade in value. Let someone else take the injury risk.

Here's to hoping we get a Chris Paul + Okafor in a Yao+PG deal :)

    ROFL.

You can't tamper with your own player. There's nothing wrong with handshake agreements. Happens all the time. Restricted free agents promised by teams that if they play out the option, the team will offer them full MLE the next season when they are unrestricted. That is not tampering. It's not tampering to tell your own player you will sign him at the MLE next season and guarantee him that you will offer him the full MLE.......while he is playing for your team.

With the way the Knicks have been playing, the Rockets can even add the draft pick from the 3-team trade and up their chances of landing a better player (maybe a pseudo allstar player). I say make the trade happen then bring Yao back! Heck, do this trade for Tyson Chandler

let say we could do this.... all the teams that would want to save money are not lottery teams, we wouldnt get a very good pick out of it

Yep. I'd be really surprised if they haven't already discussed a salary range and all the details.

The BAD thing about this is that while Yao is with another team, the Rockets are not able to control his rehab. But that was likely to happen this summer anyway, since he'd have to rehab away from the team if there's a lockout.

Cousins might be a little over rated here on clutchfans and why aim for someone as immature as he is when we could go for other young talent like Gasol who has his head on straight

I'm with you. It's the same people who are going crazy about going after Javale or Blatch. We need a proven hard working veteran not some spoiled little kid. That's what cousins and Javale are.

Where did you get the 6-8 weeks figure, DD? Everything I read said he was definitely done for the year -- and even longer if he opted for surgery. And this is his ankle we're talking about, which has to carry the load of, what, about 80% of his body weight?

Teams like to keep players with their head on straight, so Memphis is going to do everything they can to keep Gasol. However, players with maturity problems or other issues are easier to acquire. So, I think some people here at Clutchfans see Cousins as more attainable than Gasol. I would be surprised to see either of these players come available.

If this happens...it would b the transaction of epic proportions...the team to fall for it would be a complete idiot. Either way, if its possible, morey is the one who can do it.

The OP is talking about Yao getting traded with another team then making an agreement to sign with Rockets again after his contract expires. That's ground for tampering already, and if his new team offers him a max contract and Yao still signs with Houston for the MLE its exactly like the Joe Smith fiasco by the Wolves.

Of course proving it is a different matter. As long as nobody offers Yao the max and he keeps his mouth shut about it, the league will turn a blind eye as it always does...

A fair bit of bargaining is probably going on. I feel that other teams are interested in Brooks and the 2011 pick in addition to Yao's expiring contract.
I'm glad that Morey is being patient.

If they do the trade for the expiring contract and the insurance savings they won't mind if Yao signs back with the rockets.

DD seems to ignore the fact that if the weight of the load caused the stress fracture initially, simply letting it heal and trotting back out on it is not going to solve the problem.

if he is serious about any hope of a return, surgery is the only way.

I sincerely hope Brand is not coming to Houston.
Ever play NBA Live or 2K? This could be like one of those situations when you have the chemistry right and then screw it up with a Bone head move and screw the team up... Only in real life, ofcourse.
