We would be one of the most hated teams in the L if we paired Scola and Varejao. Lots of hair flying and flopping. Get er done Morey!
I stand corrected.. just checked out his production for this year.. gonna have to eat my own words.. dude's playin pretty well.
Maybe your right... but watching them from past playoff games , they look every bit worth their contracts and then some.... jUSt IMO
You are crazy if you think that lineup is not a contender. The flopping in that lineup alone will kill this league.
While I like Varejao in a Rockets uni, we would be taking a looot of future salary, and we would pretty much take ourselves out of any major FA acquisitions in the near future. IMO, if we are to trade for a Varejao, we should be trading future salaries back, either Scola's, or Lowry + Jeffries etc... For yao, I would look for a team that's looking to save major dough, desperate enough to trade us some talent for that expiring contract. But I dont see the Rockets taking on too much money long term unless its for a true stud (Melo, Nash etc). Or maybe trade him for another expiring contract, but get a 1st rounder as Yao's insurance would still save the other team a few millions...
Kinda curious about the supposed insider info about us dealing grizzlies. Although mayo has been readily available...it was my understanding that was partly do to drafting henry...and ive read many articles from memphis saying gasol was untouchable. Also we need neither mayo or henry ...so we can have 4 sgs? and 4 sfs? Obviously if this was the core of the trade it would be a 3 team trade. Maybe a deal where mayo and henry go some where else we get gasol and a player from the third team. Or like speculated I dont believe CP3 is going anywhere but something like this would probablly work. Memphis gets yao and patterson sends mayo henry and gasol houston gets okafor and cp3 sends yao brooks (maybe other piece) noh gets Gasol Mayo and Henry and brooks (im sure rockets picks) expring or (work a deal where they get TE. (many options to make money work) sends cp3 and okafor Thats pretty good haul for NOH for cp3...save a ton of money get some good young talent and im sure at least 1 first rounder out of that. Still dont know why Memphis looses all that for money and patterson. I dunno...I think that is the type of deal morey is going for but i dont think it happens. I think we have a better shot at getting melo (using yao and young players) Then after we get melo MAYBE cp3 gets dealt... I find it hard to believe a struggling franchise trades its most marketable player and one of the most marketable players. Thats like profit suicide ... and game attendance would prob drop to record lows over night.
If we trade in a deal with Charlotte for Wallace and Jackson... Would our sponsorships flip from Chinese companies to malt liquors?
Playoff contender, for sure. But championship contender? Not instantly, IMO. Can that team compete with the Mavs, and Lakers? I don't know. It kinda depends on what our bench would look like. CP3, Martin, Battier, Scola, and Okafor is a DAMN GOOD start5. But you also have to think about the chemistry of this team. The team looks great on paper, but it takes time to develop chemistry. Would that team be able to beat the Lakers, Spurs, or the Mavs? Possibly, but i personally dont think its likely.
From Ultimate6thman a couple of pages back: "I haven't read all 20something pages in this thread yet, but in case it hasn't been posted in here yet, my insider sources tell me that our trading partner for Yao will be the Grizzlies yet again. The proposed trade will be Marc Gasol, OJ Mayo and Xavier Henry plus cash considerations for Yao and Patterson. I don't know how or if that works out, I'm just giving it to you like it was given to me. You can believe it or not, as time will soon show how much truth is to it."
its a few pages back, try page 23 or 24. EDIT: looks like the poster above me just quoted the proposal.
Also stated that the only way a trade with Memphis could work is if Gay or Randolph are included in the deal to make salaries match.
Why would memphis do this? Take Yaos contact, by giving up their young pieces? Unless memphis wants cap space that bad, I don't see why they would trade their starting center.
Very true -- at first I thought he might have heard "Memphis big man" and thought Gasol when it was Thabeet.. but the salaries are not close to matching with either. I know they don't plan to re-sign Randolph, but I'm not sure why the Rockets would go for him when we have a stockpile of cheap PFs on the roster. Yes, Randolph is better than them, but he's due for a BIG payday this summer and he would be battling for minutes with Scola -- who JUST got paid. I can't see Randolph being a target.. Maybe it's centered around a Battier for Gay swap? Nahh... Memphis couldn't be that dumb!
