Here are some hypothetical scenarios. No legs to any of this, but some just seem logical and are good for discussion purposes. Memphis gets: Yao Ming Houston gets: Thabeet, Mayo, Tony Allen, DeMarre Caroll Philadelphia gets: Yao Ming, Chase Budinger Houston gets: Elton Brand, Evan Turner Washington gets: Yao, Chase Houston gets: Hinrich, Thornton, Blatche Pacers get: Yao, Budinger Houston gets: Hibbert, Foster, Posey
Well, when it leads to three Final appearances including two rings then start weighing the benefit: cost ratio.
I said, now if they do...that's another story. Randolph's looming contract can be a concern, but I think Heisley will let the CBA rough him up. Everything's hypothetical, but if you're telling me we're guaranteed to get Gasol, Mayo, etc. then I'm calling you out. If you do end out right, I'm happy. If you do end out being wrong, I'm right. Either ways it's a no lose situation. I see a Thabeet-Mayo deal as more surfacable, perhaps with Mayo being 3-way'd to Chicago and us getting multiple picks back in the form of Charlotte's and more.
I don't know....he's an expiring contract isn't he? that brings toughness, offensive rebounding/putbacks which we'll need in the playoffs. lol, if this dude is right, which I doubt...and we get all that back for Yao...then he isn't injured.
Cost benefit to who? the grizzlies? why would the lakers winning champinships concern the grizzlies, it's not like the grizzlies are competing with the lakers, they got what they wanted out of the deal.
Could be something Morey is looking at and all the parts (players) haven't been sorted through yet. But such a deal would have to involve Rudy Gay, if only for the money. And Rudy Gay is as close to a "star" as we're likely to get; Melo's off to NJ/NY, Iggy's staying put while the 76ers show signs of life, etc.
Seriously, you don't trade all that talent for a broken down Yao...even for his contract, unless Memphis owner is really that frustrated, and decided to blow it all up and start over.
After watching last nights game. Blatche or McGee wouldnt be too bad. Plus the Wizards might look to split them up after their "altercation". Yao Ming for Rashard Lewis in one deal because Lewis cannot be traded with a combination of players. Patterson for McGee in another trade. I dont know just trowing out ideas PG: Lowry/Brooks SG: Martin/Lee SF: Lewis/Battier/Budinger PF: Scola/Hill/Hayes C: McGee/Miller/Hayes Trade Budinger for a pick to have Williams on the 12 man roster.
I don't want to be too gullible so let me just play devil's advocate. Yao and Patterson have a combined salary of around $19.5M. Mayo and Xavier combine to $6.5M. Is it conceivable to offer Gasol a ~$10M a year extension to match salaries? Is it even possible to "extend-and-trade" him? Bima, or any other cap experts? EDIT: BTW why don't you guys actually wait until the guy is proven wrong before chewing his head off. Sheesh. This is how you scare away all the real insiders. Not all scoops are going to happen 100%, just because it doesn't happen doesn't mean there weren't discussions. Now no insiders would bother posting any discussions since his head will be on a stick if they don't pan out.
What? Why does it effect the Grizzlies? Because guess what, the Grizzlies just strengthened a team that they are trying to beat/overcome. Your goal is to win a championship and what you did is give a team two championships AND lessen your chance of getting one. If their intent was simply money, that's a different story. 3 years removed, a Rudy Gay contract, a Mike Conley Jr. contract, a Zach Randolph acquisition-- I don't think it was money. They were trying to get rid of Gasol and retool, but in the process made a monster of a team that in their long/short term will never be able to overcome.
No that wouldn't be allowed. The deadline to offer a player from the 2007 draft an extension has passed. Even if it was allowed, you can't trade a player that signs/re-signs for three months. If it was legal, why wouldn't the Grizzlies just keep Gasol to themselves?
No it's not - Gasol isn't eligible for an extension - and people are calling him out because you have to be really dumb to make up a trade and not even check the salaries.
Just heard this proposed by Mighty Gwynn on Sports Talk 790... Rockets trade with the Hornets; Yao, Brooks, and Hill for Paul and Okafor. Mighty's reasoning: New Orleans Hornets is owned by the league, and the Hornets is causing the league to LOSE money. Yao's $18 mil coming off the books and Hill's low salary will ultimately save them a lot of money. Rockets reasoning: Get CP3 and get an inside defensive presence. AND.. can possibly sign Yao next year to a vet minimum. Paul/Lowry Martin/Lee Battier/Budinger/T-Will Scola/Hayes Okafor/Miller That line-up, while NOT a contender, would be only ONE big splash move away from being a contender. Possibly wheel and deal to bring in Melo. If somehow Morey would be able to keep Scola and Martin while dealing and agreeing with Melo and CP3 to sign extensions.. well that would just be EPIC. ...i guess this is just wishful thinking...
Did you not read about the cash consideration? And who knows, maybe it's not the EXACT trade and adjustments will be made like maybe an extra player.
You can only add up to 3 million for cash considerations and that amount wouldn't count towards matching salaries in a trade.
