This changes everything. I never thought they'd consider this. God. As much as I love Yao, this news has me so excited. If a move for Okafor/Paul and even another of their garbage contracts is possible, we'd be instant contenders. Okafor/Miller/Hill Scola/Hayes/Hill/Patterson Battier/Budinger (maybe Jeffries goes out for a third bad contract?) Martin/Lee Paul/Lowry or Brooks/Smith I guess either Lowry or Brooks would be included in the deal to replace Paul for cheaper? Likely Brooks because they'd get the chance to resign him or not. We'd finally have our defensive shot blocker to anchor the squad and our super star go to guy. Unfortunately, I think this deal extremely unlikely. Though the possibility of it or something with Melo will certainly get me through til' the deadline. As for the question of whether not Melo or Paul would remain Rockets - if we got to add them without losing ANY of our rotation guys, how could they leave? There aren't any better teams for them to join. That's for certain.
Of course this is great news. The first thing I thought when I read this earlier was that we could trade him and re-sign over the summer. I hope we get a true impact player, something similar to the T-mac trade last year. It is refreshing to know how the Rockets organization is always looking to improve, and always giving fans something to look forward to.
Let's hope we can get something decent in return if this is true. You don't do it just for the sake of doing it.
Yao + Aaron Brooks + Patterson + Knicks 2011 1st Swap + 2012 1st Pick + Rockets 2012 1st Pick + Jeffries EC for Paul/Okafor I can dream right?
your naive its a business yao will go wherever he feels is the best situation but i doubt he ever plays basketball again he needs to retire for the good of his family
I am certain that this has gone through Yao. I just can't believe the Rockets management would have leaked this without Yao's consent. And I agree with those who believe Yao will be resigned to the Rockets, either for a real contract or a symbolic one for him to retire on. Morey needs to find a team that wants Yao as money saving device and not as a player.
Great news!! If Morey trades Yao, I will donate $20 to the tip jar and kiss Morey's ass. Morey would only cement him being god like. There's no way I though the Rockets organization had the balls to do that. I sure hope someone is not pulling my leg.
David Nuno: Rockets are fielding calls, not entertaining. Rockets not really considering trading him. They want to keep Yao. Rockets arent really considering dealing Yao. Rockets in a place where everyone is tradeable. However, you'll have to knock their socks off for Yao. They'll take calls. If Nuno sees this, he can correct anything I may have mistyped or falsely accused him of saying. Not that I did or dont think I did.
You forget how many millions Yao passed on to sign with Reebok. You forget how many Millions Yao passes on if he thinks the commercial is not appropriate. Morey has already said before the injury, Yao would accept less if it would help the team. Yes Yao is a business man and if someone offers him a 100 million contract and we offer him a 5 million deal he may reject. But Yao loves Houston and wants to win here. And if he decides to come back can do that here and not throw away 10's of millions I suspect he will do so.
How is this news? Of course they would "explore" it. They'd be dumb if they didn't. I am sure they are just talking. Not sure why that is such big news.
Not really surprising but I do think some teams will knock their socks off, this is a way to clear TONS of cap space and save serious cash. Plus, if Wojo reported it then there has to something to the calls they are taking.
I hope a trade with the Clippers Blake Griffin + Baron Davis heavy contract or with Philadelphia Elton Brand + Evan Turner
Awesome 6 teams are interested, I wonder who they are? The real question is, what teams are seriously thinking of signing him to a short term deal to take a risk?
Even without the insurance trading Yao would be the bball business move, all this noise about him being a cash cow was just that noise. You just don't have a guy sitting on your bench taking up a roster spot and paying him on top of that if you can help it and if you have a commitment to win. Glad the Rox seem to have come to their senses, Yao's contract is huge and could set up a potential blockbuster trade.
Rockets have talked to no one's surprise, the Sacramento Kings(who has the talent the Rockets would seek according to Feigen/article below) and also the Charlotte Bobcats(attractive picks and contracts, also according to Feigen/article below). Sacramento remains steadfast on not trading Cousins. Bobcats are likely to include players who wouldnt be here long term, such as players like Nazr Mohammed and/or Boris Diaw and draft picks Spoiler http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl...(chron.com+-+Top+Stories)&utm_content=Twitter
