Derick Favors.... at the cost of what exactly??... He is almost exactly the same player as Hill with possibly even a lower ceiling for breakout potential. I would say Hill actually has slightly better athleticism, while Favors can play the Center postion slightly better in the future given more lower body strength. Do not forget that Favors is arguably the best trading chip they have at the moment and they are giving him away for JUST expiring contracts. Id say the trade off would be a wash if we are giving up a player like Hill. If its a trade like Morey made for Terrence Williams then sure, go for it, but why take on another project big when the project you already have has already been in your system and working with your coaching staff?
TIME TO MOVE ON. We got rid of number #1 and now it is time to double it and get rid of number #11. I love it.
Can someone answer this for me, I didn't read the whole thread, but if we trade Yao, we wouldn't get the DPE right? Either it would go to the team we trade him to or it simply wouldn't be granted. Does anyone know this for sure? Bima? Thanks. And my thought as if it deserved to be declared--no one can blame the organization at this point. We've jumped through any number of hoops over the year to accommodate this international treasure/porcelain vase/basketball player, and at this point if Yao has a sense of honor (which by all reports he does) then he is not going to continue jerking our chain around to prolong his career/keep his chances of playing on one team throughout his career alive. As others have said, there's the great possibility that Yao takes less money than he's worth on the market to re-sign with us primarily through this sense of duty, and if that's true then the whole trade-n-re-sign switcheroo deal that teams like the Mavs (Stackhouse), Spurs (Barry), and Cavs (BigZ) have pulled off is definitely in play. Yao fits the category at this point in his career of being a veteran who has the ability to pick his team to maximize his chances at winning, and if he can help the Rockets get to that contending point via his expiring contract then Godspeed you fools, get it done so he can return to a Rockets team that is that much closer to winning a championship. For once I want all the other fans in the league to be crying foul over our wheelings and dealings. I'm tired of the Celtics and Lakers getting all the complaints.
If Woj says we're talking to multiple teams about Yao, we're talking to multiple teams about Yao. What DM says is worthless. I think he's great, but he's a snake-oil salesman, and he's going to say whatever he thinks helps the team. To be sure, he throws some "frank" tidbits once in a while, just to give himself credibility. Javale McGee? I was just reading how he squabbles every day with Blatche, so he's likely on the block himself. We don't need to waste Yao on getting him, though. As for Yao retiring as a Rocket: Hakeem didn't. Really, how many of you lose sleep because Hakeem wore a Toronto uniform for a few games? DPE: we're not going to end up with salaries from the trade, plus the DPE. That just increases team salary, most likely over the Luxury Tax. We might get flexibility out of this, but we'll end up at a salary not much higher than what it is right now. To Entropy: acids and bases cancel each other, i.e., bringing the pH closer to 7, the middle. What the Chronicle said is spot on. This is just another arrow in DM's quiver. We cannot use all the possibilities that we have: a TPE, the DPE, the Yao trade, Jeffries (plus other expirings, maybe), etc. We would just end up way over the LT. But, DM will have lots of ways to work these things. He will probably have something of interest to half the teams in the NBA. He will wait and see what's out there, then do several deals that end up with us getting the right combination. For instance, one deal might have AB going out; DM will have this covered before he pulls the trigger, so we don't end up with a big hole at one position. At the end of the day, we will end up renouncing some of our exceptions / possible trades of expiring contracts.
Disagree - it'll make it worse!! Dream was a legend who played here for 17 years and won 2 championships. Yao is a very tall man who is into his 9th season with us --> but the last 2 of those he has played 5 games total (and all those this year); in the 4 years prior to that he missed an enormous chunk of games - and the one season he played 77 games was the season he failed to finish (with his current injury). Frankly, Yao has given us 3 good years that weren't ruined by injury. To claim that he's a local legend in the same breath as Olajuwon surely surely SURELY makes the 'curse' much worse??
I would be all over that in a flash. Yao, Budinger for McGee + Lewis? Where do I sign up? Lewis has more game left than people think - he was just floating a bit in Orlando because he thought he could.
Hmm- so our ideal trading partner is a team with a cheapskate owner with lots of young talent on the bench... Clippers anyone?

OF EVERYTHING IVE HEARD... I like the idea of landing favors and helping nets get melo or getting melo and nene or just getting nene... as back up plan I think iggy and walllace are good bets as well.
Kaman would be just great - I mean imagine getting rid of an injury prone centre in exchange for... an injury prone centre???
