It appears the Lane Kiffin experiment in Oakland may really be over this time ... no, really ... seriously. Kiffin has been informed by Raiders officials that Al Davis intends to remove him as the team's head coach as early as Monday, FOXSports.com has learned. Davis blamed Kiffin for the Raiders' 24-23 loss on Sunday to the Bills, and told his underlings that he will make the move on Monday. However, word was leaked out last week in a similar fashion and Kiffin survived. Players reached out to FOXSports.com to express hope that the move would not be made, and with Davis you can never be certain. Kiffin has reportedly been on bad terms with Davis since shortly after last season. Sources said that when Kiffin informed Davis of coaching changes he wanted to make, the owner actually sent word to those coaches that the head coach was looking to make a move, but that Davis would protect them. The Raiders opened the 2008 season with a 41-14 loss to the Broncos and former Raider coach Mike Shanahan, but rebounded from that by beating the Chiefs, 23-8. They took a 16-7 lead into the fourth quarter Sunday against the Bills, but lost on Rian Lindell's 38-yard field goal as time expired. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8593236/Sources:-Raiders%27-Davis-to-fire-Kiffin-Monday-
I don't care who says what, IMO they looked improved vs. Buffalo... Just had no defense. Al Davis is approaching Bud Adams territory. The only thing that saves him is trophies. Very old trophies.
They aren't that bad. Why not let a young coach grow with a young team. Hypothetically speaking.... you could put a guy of Bill Belichick's caliber in as the new coach and come out with similar results at the end of the season.
I honestly don't see how you could say that. They had no defense and no offense in that game. Now they have improves since that game.
Oops, I meant against Buffalo... I'll change it. I had just read the Saints vs. Denver recap... similar late debacle, I guess.
I got cha now, but yeah Raider fans said they were looking good until Rex Ryan put the defense in a soft zone coverage and played prevent D on that last possession. I still don't understand why teams go to a prevent D when there is 2 minutes left on the clock.
I hope the Chiefs or Chargers end up hiring Kiffin at some point and he goes on to whip the Raiders twice/year for the next 10 years. Al Davis is a psychopath.
At this point, they might as well just fire him... even if he becomes the next Shanahan the team can't keep going through this bull**** every day. Its just too much of a distraction. Whoever takes over (Please God not Rob Ryan and his worst prevent defense ever) probably won't win more than 2 games this year. Denny Green, Jim Fassel or Receivers Coach James Lofton (who was hired this season without Kiffin's consent) rumored to be on the short list. Al Davis has been destroying his legacy piece by piece since he chased off Gruden.
Hopefully whomever they bring in gets JLH more involved in the offense. He showed what he can do once he has the ball in his hands, yesterday...
If everyone despises Al Davis so much, why does he still own the team? No one else wants to buy it? The fans haven't written in enough to complain what a bad owner he is? I guess what I'm trying to say is, there's no way to impeach an owner huh? lol.
What you CAN do is to run him out of town and force him to make his stupid decisions elsewhere. Signed, A Frustrated Oilers' Fan.
