I worry that with the Roberson injury any guard bought out like Joe Johnson would choose OKC over us simply cuz of the guaranteed playing time.

With big men at least there aren’t a lot of good teams with available minutes; the Cavs but I would assume players are turned off by that mess.

I think for most typical fans its just name recognition and the fact that he's a former allstar .... no one taking into consideration he wouldn't find many minutes here - same people begging for Green to get minutes .... Why sign JJ when GG isn't getting many unless there is an injury.

Use those assets to shore up a position that isn't as deep - a 3rd point or another 4 who might take minutes from Ryno at home or many some of the minutes Nene leaves on the table.

Not like they have a lot of bullets to fire anyhow .... don't want them trading a rotation guy or future #1's limiting what they can do this offseason.

I don't see them making any BIG deals .... maybe an upgrade to Black or possibly a 3rd point for the end of the bench ....

Would love to have him due to his playoff experience, but IMO Green complement our offense more, am I right...?

It’s been reported that Jazz guard Joe Johnson will be bought out if he’s not traded before the deadline, and two front-office sources have cited the Thunder as a leader for Johnson. When the Nets waived Johnson after the 2016 deadline, the Thunder were one of the teams to pursue the veteran. Even though Johnson, now 36, has regressed, he could still offer needed bench scoring. - Kevin O'Connor/The Ringer
I think ch44 might have said the same.

I understand the playing time aspect of the decision but what happened to vets joining contenders. Houston by far would be the most appealing destination unless GS or Boston offered him a deal. OKC is looking like a first round exit except when Russ plays KD.

This team is already so slow and unathletic defensively for an elite team. Glad he won't go to the Rockets.

JJ is a Rocket, I'm certain. His connection to MDA, and them never having won it after getting so close. We are a tier above the Thunder. I'm sure he's interested in the Thunder, but they cannot offer him more than what we can: backup forward. Except we're just a much better team. Their trio is not even doing as well as a Harden/Anderson/Gordon trio. This year? Forget about it.

And JJ is not a 3 with the Rockets, he's a 4. He cannot play the 3 anymore, and he can definitely hold his own as a backup 4 defensively. It will be an excellent weapon - he's essentially Beasley with a better 3pt shot and can create a bit from the 4 spot - and he will have superstars and shooters to pass to. He's too slow to play the 3 now. I think he can - at least - give us some excellent playoff performances as our backup 4.

I'd like to get JJ but Celtics can pay him more and OKC can give him way more minutes, maybe even a starting spot...
