Stupidity - Posters are struggling to come up with 10 better GMs yet they think if they can find 10 better GM's that already have jobs that we should fire Morey and hire somebody else off the street who isn't in their top 10 that already have a GM job nor is that person considered a better choice by all 29 other teams to be their GM.
what are your inside sauces telling you? that you should stop posting on this board immediately????? GreGonOMics
I won't call out others like that. You yourself have not delivered with better than average trade targets.
Steve Patterson is the man we need. Unlike Maury he has shown the ability to build an NBA championship team. Le$ knows that better than anyone else.
It depends on how the deep run goes and how the next regular season goes. If they go like last season's shaky wild swinging wins and losses and like this regular season, it's all back to square one again. Unless, of course, if the deep run actually produces a championship. Then Morey's job will be very safe.
For a deep playoff run to happen one of two things happened: 1) the team figured out the identity and basketball issues and came together to become the team we thought they would be. If this happens it kind of proves that the problems were beyond GM 2) we make trades / personnel moves down the line that salvage our season and the GM is responsible
Steve Patterson transformed the Rockets from perennial playoff fodder into a championship team. That is undeniable. Just take a look at the brilliant moves he made to finally bring a championship to the city of Houston: February 21, 1990: Purchased Vernon Maxwell from the San Antonio Spurs. June 27, 1990: Traded Alec Kessler to the Miami Heat for Carl Herrera and Dave Jamerson. September 27, 1990: Traded John Lucas, Tim McCormick and a 1994 1st round draft pick (Charlie Ward was later selected) to the Atlanta Hawks for Roy Marble and Kenny Smith. February 18, 1992: Hired Rudy Tomjanovich as Head Coach. June 24, 1992: Selected Robert Horry (1st round, 11th pick) and Popeye Jones (2nd round, 41st pick) in the 1992 NBA Draft. September 25, 1992: Traded a 1995 2nd round draft pick (Jerome Allen was later selected) to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Scott Brooks June 30, 1993: Selected Sam Cassell (1st round, 24th pick) and Richard Petruska (2nd round, 46th pick) in the 1993 NBA Draft. August 2, 1993: Traded a 1995 2nd round draft pick (Don Reid was later selected) to the Portland Trail Blazers for Mario Elie. The end result? Clutch City Don't try and diminish or minimize what he accomplished, especially when compared to the Rockets current GM. Steve Patterson is available, but the blind can keep worshiping a front running failure like Daryl Maury.
This is very questionable Morey going to the Finals with this lineup without changes is like winning the lottery
He's a good GM, but paired with Leslie and their philosophy towards how we need to play is just not a good combination. If they let go of this run and gun, shoot threes until you die and supposedly a very entertaining style of basketball (Leslie's words, not verbatim) then we have the best chance with Morey. He needs to change though, I don't like the guy at all. Like someone pointed out, isn't it funny how quiet he is all of sudden now that we're not doing well. Big mouth and big ego.
Everybody including this thread will go quiet once/if we are winning. Nobody really cares how we do it - ie. sporadically or with occasional flashes of brilliance. Its the nature of limelight sports - kill or be killed
Ferry? Really? You people want morey fired and the best replacement u can think of is Ferry? Ferry did a good job in clearing baggage in atlanta but during his cavs tenure he made tons of mistakes, from giving darius miles and that other dude (played with arenas amd butler in wash) huge contracts to always trading away Cavs draft picks to making bad trades. 1) We need an analytics gm. Analytics are the present and future, if he's not an analytics perspn like morey he should have ridiculous analytics henchmen like boston, dallas, okc, gsw and spurs. 2) no old people like patterson, wtf naming an excellent track record 2 decades ago is like looking at mj's play during the 80s and telling me he would be an awesome addition to the roster now. I'm sorry but father time's march is inevitable, we need someone who knows how things work now. 3) ironically morey is the best gm for a rebuilding team, dude is a great drafter and trader really his only failing is underestimating coaching, in retrospect if he got a solid coach in the caliber of RA or JVG perhaps this season wouldnt have happened.
I have a counter situation. If as you say the team can make a deep run to the Finals with this roster would any CFer endure a possible mediocre, underwhelming season performance the next year or next 2 years? (because this team is so inconsistent) I would say Morey would still be on the hot seat. You got to deliver a good regular season and have a successful postseason nowadays.
Morrey gave brewer 8 per for 3 years. And Danny Ferry is a fox who not only trades well but drafts well too and gives the proper importance to coaching and analytics too. I dont want Morrey fired but to say that morrey hasnt made huge mistakes while ferry has is hillarious. And why must the gm be analytical exactly? Thats why there is the analytical department to give their input. Morrey is NOT a great drafter. Hes mediocre. A great drafter is someone like presti or hammond. Thats a usual characteristic of small silly kids .Laughing out loud on their own with no good reason. Maybe you will grow out of it but not looking likely.
Wait... MOREY Is the best at drafting!!!!! Hahaha, okay, I see your point That's why if Hou tanked I'd be concerned he'd even pick correctly at number 1. I mean he'd probably pass on all the great players and take some player that has "potential".... I'm not saying he's bad at everything, but drafting, ****... He'd be better off using an early release of some video game/simulator or something. a lot of his gambles have been junk.
