The bottom line is this. Melo is worth about 10 draft positions IMO. i.e. turns a 24th pick to a 14th pick. So that in of itself is worth roughly a low 1st rounder.

Now what did we give up for Williams? A lottery-protected 1st. If we do suck, then the pick gets pushed back yet another year, making it worth less. If we don't suck, it at least guarantees that the Knicks pick will be at least similar to ours. That is, unless they surprise everyone and be a top 4-5 Eastern team.

Oh, and we get a former lottery pick. If Melo goes to NJ, this trade becomes instantly upgraded to awesome on our end.

Just spoke to @denverchannel's news desk. He said the deal would send Favors, Troy Murphy, and picks to the Nuggets for Melo.

Dev is dumb. Instead of 4 first round picks they could of added T Williams and the 3 picks. Williams would of been great for the rebuilding Nugs. Instead they opt for a pick that might in the mid 20's. But good for us I guess.

Why would he agree to an extension with them?

Because depending on the new CBA, he could be leaving millions on the table if he doesn't extend.

It does not seem believable to me. If the Nets were to give all that up for an unsigned Melo they are stupid.

Anyone think this might be a rumor started by Denver in order for the Knicks to feel the heat and be willing to give up more in a deal?

If its not done yet, it wiil be. That deal is too much for Denver to turn down, even if Melo was signed by Denver for the next 6 years, they would have to consider a deal like that.

Carmelo is holding out hope for New York but this deal makes sense for Denver. Good news for Nets and Carmelo if this happens. They are young and up and coming. Could see them going far with a big man like they have and Carmelo. Just need more depth. Maybe they sign Chris Paul?

Not really. The Knicks will end up with a better record or near as good at the least. Which renders or exchange of draft picks worthless. And if we trade the knicks 2011 pick as suggested than the Knicks outcome win or lose is irrelevant to us. Morey's participation in the Anthny is strictly for the betterment of the weakest link on our team and that is SF. He obviously doesn't believe we could get ANthony for ourselves and he must not think we have much of a shot at Iguodala. If we somehow walk away with Terrence williams for a non lottery first round draft pick we win. That is another coup for Morey and has nothing to do with stopping Anthony from being dealt to New yourk.

Maybe but Favors and Murphy can't be traded till the 15th. SO if it goes down tomorrow than that is all it was.
