IMO I am very wary of a guy like Thibs. His offense, like JVG, is super stagnant. Yes, defensively we will improve but the offense will likely look the same. Granted, whoever we bring in will be better than Mchale but if we are looking for a homerun hire, I dont think Thibs is the guy.

Someone who can get these guys to play defense...to rotate over...to box out.

If there's no one who can get them to do that, then it really doesn't matter anyway.

Like a number of people have said on the board as the season has unfolded and I've alluded to as well, the biggest indictment against McHale right now, even bigger then his lack of Xs and Os is it appears he's just not able to reach these guys at this point and they are not playing hard for him. After a lot of these games, effort is still a main issues being discussed which is pitiful. If effort continues to be a major issue a major change needs to be done starting with the coach. It's the beginning of the end for a coach when the team is consistently not playing hard for them.

Overall this team just needs real direction right now. I feel Lawson isn't the best fit but I'm thinking a better coach would be doing a better job of incorporating Lawson into the team. McHale is just not sharp enough to give this team what it needs. Just because a player was great during their playing days doesn't mean they are smart enough to be a good coach.

I am all for JVG. We need defensive structure more than anything.

Hire Shane Battier. He has been regarded by everyone who has coached him and by all of his teammates as the smartest player on the court and as a guy who would make a fantastic coach one day.

I am very confident he would be a home run hire.

Head coach JVG with assistants Thibs and Battier and you have a team with a bright future.

Thibs wouldn't go back to being the backup. He'll get a head coaching job, easy.

I don't know what this team would be like with either of those guys as head coach. Sometimes I think that even if they coach a lackluster offense, at least they'll try to instill some sort of discipline.

A little bit of iron boot is definitely needed here. Too much iron boot, however, might be a bit jarring. Thibs and JVG both tended to dismiss the possibility of grinding down their players to the nub.

I would hire Battier right now for assistant coach and groom him to be the head coach when McHale's contract runs out or he gets fired.

just because we somehow reached to the wfc last season, we're gonna at least be there and possibly beyond,,, is a really flawed logic in thinking. nothing is given in this league. otherwise i could make the argument that this yr's champ is most likely the cavs' to fetch...

but oh wait, but but we added lawson and dmo will solve all of our problems...
    yeah, right...

Mike Dantoni with JVG and Battier as assistant coaches? We'd have offense and defense

Battier can help perimeter defense and spacing, he isn't the guy who can help Lawson or Capela/Harrell.

Mario Elie isn't available but he would be a fine choice IMO, he can instill discipline quicker than most with his no nonsense attitude. He is part of Clutch City too.

how so? i know he's an assistant coach in orlando iirc, but if offered a hc job, it's a league custom to let him go for it, no?

i am all for giving mario a shot, tho.

Why the hell would JVG be ok being a subordinate to that clown D'Antoni? D'Antoni's system actually makes it incredibly difficult to defend since you're expending so much energy on the offensive side of the ball.
