Hmm... He has a clause in his contract that lets him leave at any time. But I wonder if he wants to coach college again, or stay in the pros.

That would be a great hire for UH.

Sampson and college coaching don't work well....

Would be a huge get for UH and a big loss for the Rockets...

Contrary to some posters on here, Sampson is a very good coach and handled of players.

Hard to say what way he goes. Head coach at a division I program, or assistant coach in the NBA?

D1 HC's can make pretty good money. And he's already a big name locally.

If he doesn't have a NBA head coaching job lined up next season, would I be shocked if he took over the UH program? Something to be said for being the head honcho...

Sampson is very well respected by the Rockets front office. He almost didn't come back this season and he has never hid his desire to be a HC again.

UofH is somewhat of a sleeping giant... Strong local pool of talent, easier admission standards and an administration that really wants to win. Great tradition too... Also don't discount Sampson's NBA experience being a huge draw to blue chip prospects.

Hope he sees this season through before he leaves.

Hmm...lately UH basketball has not been what UH football has been, in terms of serving as a springboard to bigger and brighter jobs. It's almost got this black hole element to it. If I were Sampson I might even pass on this offer.

Not even close to a sleeping giant. 3rd rate facilities and non existent fan base.

    Nah...

They are doing major renovations to their arena. Further the fans come when they win. The local talent in Houston is very strong and there is quite a bit of existing talent on the roster. It has a lot of potential as a job but it requires a coach that can mine the local talent. Further the academic element is a big part of it too... They can get players qualified other schools cannot.

As a fan of the Coogs, I'd like to see the hire, but I agree with some of you that it might not be the best thing for the Rockets. Definitely conflicted.

Sorry.... college basketball interest is nonexistent in Houston.

A sleeping giant is what you call TAMU when they sucked for so long but still had sold out games and first class facilities.

Fans won't fill that dump and the historical value of Hofheinz was ruined when they built plywood boxes and called them suites.

It isn't a sleeping giant. It is in the depths of the abyss and was driven there by mack rhoades when he had no back up plan to when pres khator vetoed billy gillispie.

Seems like it would be a terrible move for Sampson. If he wants to coach college ball, I would think he could get a better job. Maybe he likes living in Houston.
