I'm a 'root for the underdog/blue collar guy' all the way and I don't think it's right that he got to skip the line either but where do you draw the line? Steph Curry had access to quite a bit of elite training/coaching along the way as a kid because of his father - NOT because he was a great basketball prospect...but he still put in the work regardless of whether he had advantages built in from his father's connections. Silas is the same - probably didn't deserve to be an assistant coach in his 20s, but he has also put in the apprentice work just like other coaches.

Besides, I think you will find 3/4 of NBA staff have cut in line to some extent. For every outsider like Daryl Morey there are 10x more friends and family occupying the coaching, scouting, exec ranks in NBA clubs - even ball boys and sideline reporters have "connections" in the NBA. Hannah Storm got her start as a sideline reporter for the Rockets and is now a major TV show anchor but it was her father's basketball connections as a ABA team exec that got her into the NBA and on TV in the first place. Even the very idea that an NBA player is somehow more capable as a coach than a player who didn't play professionally is a flawed concept because coaching and playing are two different skill sets just like high level math students aren't necessarily great teachers of math concepts.

In other words - I don't like it either, but it's a very rampant practice and you just gotta judge based on merit because if you are judging based on people who didn't cut the line, then you will find few people left to champion.

This is definitely not an innocent photo. After today's news, Stone takes this pose knowing that this photo will be taken. Stone is definitely planning something and I'm sure Silas isn't in those plans.

I like a coach who has been through tough playoff situations as a player and has actually been through the rigors of playing in the NBA. Players tend to respect these guys a lot more than someone like Silas who is living off his Dad's shine.

Basically the owner wants to be cheap and keep procrastinating it.

The average NBA player won't even know who Paul Silas was - it's only us fans getting a little long in the tooth who even know that. I doubt any of our rookies have any clue their coach's dad played....or care to be honest. Now his laid back demeanour - yes, THAT may impact the level of respect, but not whether his Dad got him to where he is because like I said - they are practically surrounded on all sides by staff just like that.

Yeah, I wonder if we are heading towards Lucas coaching as well. He's been a lot more "seen" lately and I think maybe it's his power move trying to capitalize on the people losing patience in a team that is soooo young.

To be fair he’s not wrong on the first point. Unless you work directly for a team or have an ownership stake it’s just entertainment. A distraction from your daily life.

Idk man... I feel like Stone and Silas have been gameplanning together. I'm guessing their plan was a Wall-Gordon-Tate-Wood-Theis lineup with a young bench and it's turned into complete chaos. If Stone is having a hand in firing Silas for something he's obviously played a huge part in, that's chickenshit. It's not like Silas can be defended but if Stone is staying in the game by scapegoating guys that's not a benefit to our Rockets. Stone doesn't have the clout and record of solid GM-ing to be scapegoating anyone or getting a pass.

I think from here, my armchair gameplan would be go with Porter-Gordon-Tate-Martin-Wood starting line and hope Gordon/Wood re-establish trade value before the deadline. They've got to get off the 70 million tied up in Wall, Gordon and Theis.

I wonder how much it weighed. I wonder how that will effect things going forward.
