Today it is. In 2 year it's pretty normal and may even be under paid.

 

i doubt that. he's nothing special. the fact that a team that just gave him that contract is willing to get rid of him just as fast tells alot, especially for a young team.

 

Harris' contract unless he shows a miraculous improvement will never become a bargain. But it will be a normal contract. A slight bargain if you want.

The improvement he must show is in his 3pnt shooting and in his defence. He is still young only about 23 but he's in the league now 5 years. Players very rarely show improvement after the 5th year.
Also his stats have dipped so now we can say pretty comfortambly that his slight improvement and effort in defence and his shooting from last year where the usual "contract year" spike.

Moreover he will have problems in SVG defence. He will be exposed.

... but part of my point is that players like that don't exist and won't because of the way the NBA has changed.... not just because they don't exist.

In parts it's a self-fulfilling fact. Youngsters see today's NBA, and craft their games to be certain ways, and those ways include trying to stretch the floor and create with ball-handling.

The penultimate player historically for the style you are talking about is Shaq. Dominant, bruising offensive player within 15 feet. Clearly prime Shaq would still be a dominant player today. He's Dwight with a post-game. But I think he'd be less dominant than he was. His frankly below average PnR defense would make him a liability defensively in certain instances. People would "hack-a" more. Zone, double-teaming, "illegal-defense" schemes are more advanced. Stretching/opening the floor has more significance. Basically Shaq would still dominate offensively, but net impact would be lower.

I just don't envision see'ing a lot of those players coming anytime soon.

Is Dwight in demand? A bit, sure. Are defenders like Gobert, Drummond, etc. in demand? Yes, obviously, absolutely.

But again, I think increasingly you are seeing people place more value on a guy like Draymond Green, than those guys.
