Sources: Dwight isn't "thrilled" with PG situation.

That's what it look like to me too.

 

I can definitely see the two LA teams leaking stuff like this out to try and muck up the Rockets chemistry. As long as the players and coaches understand what happened last night, and how they can't allow defensive lapses like they were doing ALL GAME, then this is just a bump in the road. So far, after both losses, we've had stories coming out that our two stars and our coaches have gotten on Lin's case.....to me, the only consistency there is that they are the two LA teams. There maybe something to the players being frustrated with Lin and his inconsistency, but he has shown definite improvement as far as his ability to finish at the rim. He just needs to work on his decision-making and his defense.

 

1. So, he is not happy with Parsons, either? Does he miss Hedo?

2. I think the key word here is "ELITE." It's not just wanting a different guy at about the same level (like a Jeff Teague or old pal Jameer Nelson) but an "elite" guy like CP3.

Not surprising, really. The whole Dwight wants to play with an elite PG thing has been rumored/reported many times-- the Nets trade demand, the CP+Howard reports, even the meeting with Warriors, and I think cyberx referred to it during the free agency chase.

I think a CP3 would definitely make Howard's life easier and his stats look better (he does for Griffin and Jordan) but not sure it'll actually improve his skills. He'd just get some more lobs to finish.

In the end, I don't know if there is a realistic way to obtain one right now. Who is trading their elite PG to Houston and what would they demand back? I doubt Brooklyn or LA or GSW is giving up Deron Williams or Chris Paul or Curry for Asik+Lin+Assets. Would you offer Harden, our only other "elite" asset, for an elite PG and can you get one in return?

Howard picked this team knowing that it doesn't have a superstar PG. It's up to him and the team to make it work with the current roster unless Morey miraculously pulls a trade out of a hat.

 

Lin has been the most consistent player on this team through 6 games.

 

I'd be pissed with some of the wide open 3s given up by the team, too, in the first half. CP3 scrambling a defense I kind of understand, but the Rockets were leaving guys open off of dribble drives by the likes of the old Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar, etc.

 

This is all hypothetical obviously, but I'd trade Harden for Chris Paul before my heart could even take a beat.

But no, I don't think you actually CAN get an elite PG.

 

Yes it looked to me like Howard was like "what happened?" and Lin was explaining where the breakdown was and what should have happened. Didn't look like they were arguing or accusing.

Howard knew our pg situation when he chose to come here. I am sure if morey can get an elite pg he will and I am sure its on moreys to do list.

Unfortunately elite pg dont grow on trees same way it took some tinkering to get to harden and the team we have now. Obvious morey would trade lin or bev if it meant an elite pg. that almost goes without saying.

So the real issue is what elite pg can we really get? My answer in terms of availability might be rondo. I think deron williams theres just no way. Cp3 no way. Who else elite is probably a no way too. All that said I have my concerns with rondo injury and shooting. But maybe the risk you have to take. So that leave us with what? udrih? teague? thats not solving anything either.

verdict: Howard is stuck with lin and bev level pg (or similar) unless we can get rondo in here.

 

And before someone suggests Rondo, realize that Rondo has always been known as someone who is sort of a loner, and not a very vocal teammate at all. While going after him for his skills makes sense, not sure if that wouldn't ultimately lead to a locker room disaster if him, Harden, and Howard didn't mesh well.

The best bet for this team is to find someone that can give a steady hand and help be a coach on the floor. That doesn't necessarily always have to come from the PG spot. Battier was very much this guy for the Rockets a few years ago, and was a big complement to both Yao and Tracy when they played together. Noah is that guy for the Bulls. KG was that guy for Boston. Kidd was that guy for the Mavs even when he was playing off the ball…. etc. etc.

The way this team is playing, I don't even know who's the point guard and who's the shooting guard.....

Lin can be a very good point guard for a center. Look at the stuff he did for Chandler and for Asik (when Harden was out). But hey, Harden is less effective with him on the floor and needs the ball in his hands to create plays.

it has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that cp3 and deron williams and those kinds of guys are untouchable.

Rondo is available or you are talking someone like udrih or teague which is not any kind of anything.
