Westbrook would only agree to Cavs trade to play with Love.

And that's a good thing, want nothing to do with Kevin Love.

Give me Larry Nance and unprotected FRPs (plural) instead, we can find 3rd team to send Love to if necessary.

 

Not that Cleveland would do this, but here’s my semi-serious bonkers suggestion:

WB/Gordon/Tucker for Sexton/Love/Drummond

-We take back less salary
-Sexton is a better shooter and fit next to Harden
-Drummond is expiring (trade deadline flexibility, also)
-Love’s contract is tolerable (compared to $41-47M/year for WB)
-Essentially two bad contracts (WB/EG) for one (Love)

PG Sexton/_____ (hopefully not Clemons)
SG Harden/McLemore/Brown
SF Wood/Nwaba/Martin
PF Love/House/Bruno
C Drummond/Cousins

Stagger their minutes (Wood/Love) so Wood gets plenty of time at PF also. Then whenever Love has his annual injury where he misses half of the season, Wood becomes the primary PF. Finish the games with Wood at PF and whoever has the hot hand at C between Drummond, Love and Cousins.

And no thanks to Love.

Move him to a 3rd team. Especially because keeping him would move Wood to SF, and that would be a disaster.

Mainly proposing this for fun. You only do a deal like this if the bridge has been completely burned here with WB. If that’s the case, I do like the idea up breaking his contract up in some sort of fashion.

Love might be a necessary cost, though. He’s been overrated on this board for years, so I definitely get your reluctance to take him. I don’t disagree. Flipping him to a third team would be costly, though. At least he can play.

If we were able to say, flip Russ + EG and/or Tucker for some sort Love/Drummond/whatever package, that leaves you with $28M expiring + 3 FRP’s to dangle at teams at the trade deadline. That might be enough to get a KAT or Siakam type at the deadline, for example. It gives you some options.

 

And I am pretty sure Cleveland wants to rebuild.
