I think it is the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope." - Red

    Many factors:

The repair is usually recommended for top tier athletes, which I'm not. There is very little to no bloodflow to the meniscus, which makes recovery very prolonged, when it is repaired. You have to stay off your feet for something like 6-8 weeks before resuming light activity. I had the meniscectomy and was walking with light assistance from crutches two hours post surgery. Back at school and work in three days.

Also, my tear was completely through the meniscus, which I think makes repair more difficult. Making it even more difficult is the fact that I'm an idiot and waited three years before seeing a doctor for it.

Also, I don't think my doctor was well practiced in repairs.

    Many more.

    Check this thread: http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105905

The poster CloakNNNdagger is a doctor. He was a guest opinionator on Steph Stradley's chron.com blog once.

Anyway, he has long chronicled the Texans issues with dealing with injuries. In the threads CnD called the entire Clowney situation. Basically, Clowney has bone spurs in his ankles needing repair. He should have had the ankle surgery along with the hernia operation to avoid future leg injuries. But they team brought him back and with the knee problems, the Texans keep putting him on the field even though he can't get in a full practice.

Clowney is still not recovered from the surgery. He should've been IRed.

Interesting if true. I didn't know of all of his other issues they found. It sounds like he has the exterior of a Ferrari, but the internal reliability of a Kia.

They did find the hernia, but the bone spurs were well-known and documented.

Oh... it was his right foot with the bone spurs, not ankle.. I was remembered that incorrectly. Just google "JaDaveon Clowney bone spurs" for the run down. The bone spur issue goes back to early in his last college season. He played through the pain that last year and opted to not have surgery this offseason. He wouldn't have been ready for the 1st game had he had the surgery. He probably should have had surgery during the college season, but there was money on the line....

The hernia may have gone as far back as his last college season, too. He gave that amazing pro-day workout with a groin injury, one that didn't heal and led to the examination that resulted in finding the sports hernia.

The spurs may have healed by now, though. But with the Texans medical staff and the way the organization puts injured guys on the field, I am not quite a believer.

I am adding some links about his injuries. Clowney stated there wouldn't be surgery for the bone spurs, but ESPN is the only source I have seen saying that Clowney did eventually have surgery.

The injuries were just one reason I was much higher on Mack and Barr over Clowney. But if they get him fully healthy, he may prove a hell of a gamer, if motivation isn't an issue. But the Texans need to get him fully healthy so he can get off this train of one issue leading to another (which happens with lower body injuries if you don't fix 'em). And so the team can know if he is really injury prone.

JeffB...in that case the decision to IR Clowney shouldve been done much earlier. Let him get his surgeries...clean out the bone spurs in his foot..Scope the knee and make sure to eliminate the possibility of a new injury...And make sure that the hernia is properly repaired. He has a lot to do this offseason including losing a bit of weight(if at all possible). Its time for him to get it done and be ready for April mini camps and summer training camps. Injury or not, next year is a make or break year for this high expectations #1 pick.

Doubt it was his pick, though I'd love to see him replaced with a geeky number crunching math geek who has a doctorate in NFL cap management.

Really skeptical that so much of Clowney's extended health issues are really known by anyone but his doctors.

Need to get rid of him ASAP imo. This dude won't last in this league, hell, he made one wrong step while he was young and in probably the best shape of his life and basically lost an entire season because of it...imagine when he starts getting hit with regularity. Whoever picked this guy and ignored all these warning signs should be fired.

She's more optimistic than I am, I think "most" and "some" need to be switched.

There are only 4 injuries and Clowney himself has shed light on them publicly. Not much to be skeptical of. Just use google. All you have to do is follow the thread form Clowney's own mouth.

Do be skeptical of BB prognositicism. But the dude in the Texans board has been money for years.
