Not going to write him off after 4 games, most after an injury. He's not out on the field looking lazy or disinterested, the numbers will come once he gains some confidence, I've seen him flash out there, but since he doesn't have stats, then of course he must be sucking it up.

If the team was winning, this whole Clowney drama wouldn't be so loud, but since they are not... here we are.

Agreed. It's just bad fans being ridiculous.

There's a whole lot of this going on.

He has to play at least 13 games next year. . . .else I will be SEVERELY worried that this was a wasted pick

    Rocket River

This unfortunately seems to be a legit issue. The guy just thinks his physical talents are more than enough to warrant taking it easy during the week, and trying to play on game day. I have said this before, and think this is exactly what this kids issue is...He thinks he's that good...good enough not to put work in practice

Clowney has been a bad pick. He's doing exactly what all his detractors said he would. Steelers,Raiders and Ravens have the best defensive players of this draft class.

You can't blame the Texans for taking him but man what bad luck. At least Mercilus wants to be out there.

Narratives are fun, feel free to hold on to them for as long as you can.

What's fun is the fact that you still think his "injury" needs healing time.

He was healed a month ago. At this point in time, that meniscus is absolutely a non issue.

Either the dude has issues or the team has an issue with him regarding something that we will not know.

And you know this how? Oh yeah, that's the narrative. Gotcha.

And ESPN and others have done reports of how teams' medical staff have cleared players despite the player saying they didn't feel ready just to justify contracts. That's why players are smart to take care if themselves and get independent help and not put their bodies and health and future comfort at the mercy of people with an overzealous desire to win games or justify contracts. Many of these contracts are covered by insurance policies so management and ownership is not exactly in dire financial straits either.

A desperate team's medcal staff is the least trustworthy thing to rely on as a key player.

You forgot about the Rams. Aaron Donald is a beast...

And I can blame the Texans for taking Clowney because he had 3 freakin sacks and red flags. Just because a bunch of fry cooks in the fan base and media thought Clowney should go #1 doesn't mean the Texans get a pass for drafting him. It's Rick Smith and O'Brien's job to know more than a bunch of fry cooks... But apparently they don't.

    OHHH STOP IT!

You seriously think that Clowney having 3 sacks over the last 24 months is a concern?

Look... Clowney is a snowflake, he just need a little TLC. He had a career threatening injury and it may take him a few seasons to get healthy. Just be patient, some day he will be ready.

This is not at all surprising. I'd be far more surprised if he made a meaningful contribution than if he sat out the rest of the year.

At some point the excuses fade away and what you do on the field is what defines you. Of course, you have to show up to get on the field in order for that to happen.

This guy was a paycheck player last year...when he was in college. His coaches questioned his sincerity regarding his injuries and regarding his willingness to practice. Nothing has changed. 3 sacks in 24 months for an "elite" first overall pick pass rusher.

I would trade picks 1-5 from the Texans 2014 draft for Zach Mettenberger who has been more productive in a few games than all of these 5 clowns combined all season. Not sure the Titans would do it.
