Billups is not a great "Get otheres involved" PG, he is a shoot first type of guy that is really good at running a team, something that took him YEARS to get good at, BTW.

If you are saying give up Brooks and get back Billups in order to get Melo, I would have to think about that.....

I am not enamored with Carmelo, though a lot of good arguments have been made about acquiring him.

Personally, I don't think he wants to come here anyway, but if he does....then I don't think you would have to give up more than Bud, Hill, a couple of picks, Jeffries and Batteir, and that would be enough...I think.

Wow, first you say it was Billups who lead Denver to the WCF in 09' but yet he doesnt make his teammates better?

And you have to be kidding me you wouldnt trade Brooks and some other guys for Carmelo and Billups.

Billups is an upgrade over Brooks.

You are confusing the issues, I am saying he is not one of those PG's who gets a lot of assists etc...

He is clearly a good PG, who was an upgrade over Iverson at running the show.

    It depends...honestly.

No, with his contract, and age, and the fact that he is declining in footspeed rapidly, he is not better than Brooks.

To date he has had a better career, but let's see what Brooks does over the next 10 years and see how they compare.

Brooks seems to be the most underated Rocket of all time.

DD, kindly note that you have filled up 6 full pages (120 total posts) of this thread by yourself. Certainly a dubious distinction.

Uuuuuum isn't the Rockets' window for a Championship with Yao about 2-3 years? I would think that makes Billups' age much less of a factor.

You know..that is a helluva question! I imagine he's like Lucky from King of the Hill. Living big off of a pay day from a slip-n-fall in a store. Spending all day on clutchfans, man that's the life.

I sold my company, retired a few years ago, and now do consulting.....

We are trying to get funding for a new company though, do you have $90 million handy?

What are you basing this pronouncement on?

In 2005-06 he was 4th in APG and 2006-07 he was 9th in APG. Additionaly, he was Top 10 in Assist Pct from 2005-2008. He is considered one of the smartest PGs in the league.

Sure, his age, contract, and declining speed are a risk. But we are trying to win now, while we have Yao and guys like Martin, Scola, and Battier are still at or near their peaks.

I don't get why people are busting balls over how good or bad Billups is in this hypothetical trade. Billups is the "throw in". This coming year he'd probably be about the contribution Brooks would. Maybe a little worse so next season, and then in the 3rd year Lowry would probably surpass him for the starting job.

But the point is... we aren't doing the trade for Billups. We're doing it for Anthony.

Agreed. As good as Billups is, he is 34 years old and Brooks is only in his 4th year or so.

But if that's what it takes to get melo here I would do it.

I agree with the idea about Lowry as well, Lowry can take over when Billups can't do it anymore.

Man I haven't posted on here in a while but DD I really believe you are making AB out to be more than what he really is. You have called Melo a chucker which really AB is the chucker.

Melo shoots the ball 20 times a game and averaged 28 points a game AB shot the ball 17 times a game and averaged 19 points a game. Be honest which is the more efficient scorer?

I remember when Luther head's stock was high around the league. We waited to late to try and trade him. We need to trade AB while his stock is high, he will not get much better

Oh yeah btw billups contact ends this year so it's not a bad thing to take him this year.

    Billups
    Martin
    Melo
    Scola
    Yao

Pretty nice line up if they find a way to make it happen

Dont think melo wants to play with Billups though. And Melo isnt worth the trade if he doesnt extend first. Period.

I would much rather have Melo here (extended) than Bosh. If we don't give out too much (i.e. Hill, Batt, Bud, JJ, and picks), we would be a favorite to make the WCF. I don't know if those salaries match though.
