I'd love for someone to photoshop Curry as a Nugget and Melo as a Knick. Then post Curry = Melo on the Nugget's forum.

Billups is better than Brooks. Brooks can't even get his own shot at the end of games and there is this thing called defense, where Billups blows Brooks out of the water. Brooks is so good that we just gave his backup $6M a yr.

Billups is declining but Melo is not. It's hard to find a player like Melo in his prime. It's not hard to find a PG like Brooks. If you can land a star player and upgrade another spot for a season or 2 (the time you need to win to maximize Yao) then you go for it. Especially when you have the option to decline Billups big contract in 1 season.

Look, there is no denying that Billups has had a very good NBA career, a Shoot first PG (that's right Lowry lovers) that has been tough as nails, and a good floor leader.

However, at this stage in their careers all Billups has over Brooks is experience, Brooks beats him in pretty much every statistical category.

And Billups defense has been in significant decline.

I know the popular thing to do is call someone a "Homer" instead of looking at something honestly.

But, mabye some of you are underating our players.....by a lot.

LongTimeFan, when are you going to acknowledge that you tried to pull a fast one by using Billups 6 game mini playoff run? Because if you used the comparible stats from the year, Brooks is better.
    Come on, own up........

And how many others that said Billups was clearly better are now surprised by Chauncey's stats? If you watched any number of their games there is no way you would think he is as good as he always was...there is a reason that Melo wants Lawson to start.

    Apparently pretty dumb! Last page:

It was an honest mistake. But I like that you took the time to go back and edit all your post to make sure you bolded something about me in them. I'm in your head.. Boo.

    Seriously.

No, you don't trade Brooks for Billups in the long term (though I might argue, if you think your window with Yao and this team is 2 years, Billups in the next 2 years is better than Brooks), but you make the swap to get a 26 year old superstar on your team.

This is like arguing against trading Francis, Mobley, and Cato for McGrady and Howard because you like having Cato's defense at the 4 next to Yao, and Howard would not provide that. It's beside the point.

Go to: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/chauncey_billups/index.html; click compare. I don't think it's possible to select the season stats, so no I never selected his playoff stats. I have no idea how to not select his playoff stats, so if you know that'd be helpful.

And me selecting the playoff stats as opposed to the regular season stats is not an indication that I was wrong. As I said, Billups is still better than Brooks. He put up those numbers playing the second fiddle to the team -- Brooks was the primary option. With Yao back and adding someone like Melo to our team, we need a more stable PG who can control the offense. Brooks, bless his heart, is not that type of PG. Billups IS that PG, and HAS done it on a CHAMPIONSHIP level. You can't ask for any better than that. Adding Melo to our team would give us a strong 1-2 punch that Billups could better manage and play defensively for us.

You saying some vague statements, without offering any proof like usual, about Billups not being good at defense doesn't score any points with me. I'm not sure I would do the deal as suggested, I'd prefer to keep Martin, but Chauncey would be a two year upgrade over Brooks.

Let's take a look at last season, where the seasoned veteran Chauncey is up against the first year starter Brooks.

    Chauncey's stat page

    Aaron Brooks stats page

    Billups
    19.5 ppg
    5.6 apg
    .418 fg%
    .386 3pt%
    2.4 tpg

    Brooks
    19.6 ppg
    5.3 apg
    .432 fg%
    .398 3pt%
    2.8 tpg

So while there is an argument to be made over who is better, depends upon what you like etc....the fact that Brooks was a first year starter and Billups was in his 13th year should be accounted for.....

There is no way I would trade Brooks for Billups at this stage in their careers.....

LTF, I did go there and look, you were correct, it just compared playoff stats....no idea how to change it.....I thought you were being sneaky, I owe YOU an apology.

Except Billups actually had 2.4 turnovers per game, not 2.6.

I mean seriously, how dumb do you think people are around here?

Billups had 0.1 less points, 0.3 more assists, 0.4 fewer turnovers, 0.2 more steals, 0.5 more rebounds in about 1.5 fewer minutes.

While Brooks had better FG and 3P%, it doesn't take into account how much better Chauncey was at getting to the line -- with a 60.1% TS% relative to Brooks 54.9%.

I don't see how that's a tossup -- Billups is basically better across the board except for PPG (by all of 0.1 -- made up for by fewer minutes), and percentages -- made up for by Billups' superior ability to get to the line and convert.

All the while, Billups team was in the playoffs, Brooks' wasn't.

Regarding a trade -- if it's a fantasy team I'm running for a year, then yes. If it's the cost of doing business to bring in Melo, then yes. Short of that, I don't think the team needs to make a move like that, in large part because of the huge disparity in salaries between the two. Trading point guards can be disruptive, and I like that Brooks is a source of continuity between Yao and Martin. If you can get a talent worth disrupting a team's roster (Melo), then it's a different story.

They may not be all that stupid but clearly they are anal.

    ;)

Thanks for the heads up, I fixed it.....

Were you surprised that they were that close? I watched a lot of Denver this year....and Billups looked noticably slower, and had difficulty matching up with PG's with speed.

I wouldn't trade Brooks for Billups either but if it meant getting Melo in the deal as well then I wouldn't be opposed.

help me out clutchfans this NY fan thinks the rockets can't get carmelo and NY can! this is what he post:

"what is so hard for u dumbasses to understand that anthony has leverage in deciding where he plays?!?! look if he really wants to move back home to NY with his wife, then all he has to do is reject contract extensions made by denver or any other team which denver trades with and sign with NY as FA,. He can even pressure denver into trading hm to NY and then sign an extension as early this season. u guys honestly think he isnt talking behind closed doors with amare and Cp3?? "

Ah, the old using the per 48 minute stat to make their guy look better....yes yes.....

Now let's factor in whom they played with...do you think that if Brooks played with Melo his stats would be better, or worse?

I mean passing the ball to Melo is a little better than Trevor, Shane, and Hayes...right?

I would not trade Brooks for Billups at this stage in their careers.

Let's get this down then.......so we can revisit this at the end of the upcomming year.

People who would make the Billups for Brooks trade:

    NikeStrad?
    Durvasa?
    LongTimeFan?

    Anyone else?

    He is right.

As I noted, I think Billups beat him basically across the board. Billups has always been a bigger point guard, and it's not surprising some of the absolute blazers that have recently joined the league (Rondo, Westbrook, et. al) give him trouble. The flip side is the absolute beating Aaron takes going against bigger PGs like Deron Williams. Good PGs are hard to stop, period.

Brooks had a tremendous year offensively -- any time you score 20 ppg and shoot about 40% from 3, it's a special year. Statistically, that's hard to match, and to be honest, I'm surprised Billups did. For a guy you claim as declining, he actually put up a career high in PPG on a Kevin Martin-esque TS%.

Billups is the better player obviously.

But it is not the stats...

It is the FAR superior defense that he plays. I mean, it isn't even a contest.

That said, I'll take the HOUSTON drafted, HOUSTON grown Aaron Brooks...

We can bulk up our defense by starting Courtney Lee or Shane Battier in K-Mart's place, with Carmelo...

Chauncey shoots his FT's exceptionally well...about 91% last year I believe and is very savvy at drawing fouls, which helps his TS% a lot, .601 I think.

I am not surprised he was about even with Brooks, because of those facts, and that he has the ball as much as Aaron does if not more....

But, I would not take Chauncey for Brooks right now.....It takes 3 years to learn Adelman's offense, and this is Brooks 2nd as a starter and he has more options on the floor with him than ever....

I expect his PPG to drop a bit, his assists to go significantly up, and his FG% to as well.....because more than any position on the floor the PG is effected by whom he is playing with......

I understand folks who are saying Chauncey is better (though I think they are recalling the Detroit Chauncey and not the current one).....but at this point.

I think you have to ride with Brooks.
