Yeah, Melo really isn't a lot better than either of them. He's better, but he's not "giving up a core player to pay him max money" better. He's not going to carry a team to a title.

I know your no stat guru or a graduate from MIT...so all you are doing is reading someone elses thoughts or determining your opinion from selective stats...choose +/- over FG% etc etc...unless you have a really good grasp of each statistical category's value compared to one another...basically your just making uneducated guessing.

First I dont think we have 25% of the actual statisitical analaysis that morey uses...and even if we did we wouldnt know how he used the results or compared them one to another (how he rated them)...all we have is the basics and our eyes.

So please stop spouting off all this "advanced metrics" non sense. Its kinda like espns PER... is handy but by NO means do you always choose the player with a higher PER over the other.

You have to consider...what team they played for ...what role the coaches asked them to play...how that meshed with the players skill set...when did the player play....Upside etc ETC.

You take two guys with the same PER rating one plays as a starter the other plays the 2nd unit...does that mean that the players are equal?

No it means that the 2nd player looked better because he played against less d...and sloppy play.

Sorry...I think this is the only board out there that 90 percent of the members think they have so grasp on statistical analysis and how to incorporate that into player scouting and development.

Um, the same things apply to AB and Martin. Neither is a good defender or passer.

In fact, we should add rebounds to the analysis.

    Rebound rate:
    Melo- 9.9
    Martin- 5.8
    Brooks- 4.2

And if a guy is scoring A LOT MORE with the SAME efficiency, you take the guy who scores a lot more. Duh. Because when usage goes up, efficiency goes down. But Melo keeps that high efficiency with more shots.

-Carmelo has averaged 28 ppg twice, and over 25 ppg twice more.
-Martin has averaged over 24 ppg once.
-Brooks isn't on the same planet, he's never averaged over 20.

I agree with most of what you said, the advanced metrics are just a small sample size of what others are probably tracking.

Thus, I believe the eyeball test is as important as what is available online as well, some people that know the game see it a bit differently than others.

WTF does weed, Lala, and HPD have to do with anything? You seem to be a very high-on-your-horse, judgmental individual. His private life (whatever he chooses to do) has never gotten in the way of him ballin before, what makes you think it would now? Come on man, its like you're throwing as much $hit against the wall as possible hoping it will stick.

Carmelo to the Rockets would be nothing but good for the Rockets and Houston as a whole (with respect to our profile as a big-city sports destination.)

But hey if you all think that gimpy Yao, short AB, and soft K-Mart can lead us to playoff wins against the Lakers better than Carmelo + gimpy Yao, and short AB/soft K-Mart can, well all I can do is shake my head.

Eyeball test says Carmello was real close to leading his team to the finals. He passes the most important test. The eyeball test. Stats don't mean jack when a player goes to a level he is good enough to help lead them to a Western Conference Finals appearance. Something the Rockets have not been close to or none of their top players can do proven so far. That's what Carmello brings here. There is no stats for that. It just is what it is. He is proven to be able to lift a team at least that far. None of our guys have. Along the way he averages 28 points a game on a good team. Something Tmac never did.

He definitely passes the eyeball test. He was the best player on a team that went to the Western Conference Finals. He's an elite scorer. Give him more help and let's see what happenes.

    Sounds just like Tmac.

    Except Tmac passed the ball.

    You are 100% incorrect.

Tmac never got to the Western Conference Finals.

TMac also doesn't attack the basket like Carmelo. Night in, night out.

Carmello also doesnt have chronic back injuries, shoulder, knee, and pelvic region injuries every year to derail us every season like Tmac.

Sorry about that, the long day at work is getting to me  ... All I'm trying to say is the team as is has large weaknesses that need to be addressed. Since we lost Ariza, it seems like we're moving in the direction of becoming a more offensive-minded team with a big deterrent in the middle to make up for shortfalls. If that's the route we're going to take, then by all means we should go all in.

In my opinion the team right now with a healthy Yao, is probably looking at 47-51 wins. If you add Carmelo in lieu of Brooks or Martin (preferably Brooks) and another rotation player, you probably add 5 more wins and 3-4 spots of playoff positioning. That is also likely the difference between home-court in the first round or having to play a Denver or OKC in the first round as a 6 or 7 seed.

I think Carmelo isn't the perfect answer but he goes a long way towards addressing our weaknesses and is a bona fide star who's better than anyone else we have any chance of getting this year.

Yes C-Bud is a good player, but I don't see him ever getting to Carmelo's level (though I do think his potential ceiling is just a notch below).

Yes AB is fearless and much improved but he's still a defensive liability and not a top-10 point in this league.

Yes Martin is one of the most efficient players of all time. He's soft defensively but I actually think keeping him is paramount in this deal. I would give him up reluctantly, but he's a legitimate star and he makes the Rockets that much stronger alongside Anthony.

Scola I believe is an interesting part to this puzzle. I read on a Nuggets board suggesting Jeffries, Scola, Brooks + pick(s) or Scola and Martin + pick(s). I haven't read a lot about Scola being part of a potential deal, but would you do either one of those deals?

I love Luis' hustle and craftiness, but I'd probably do both of those deals, particularly the first one.

    Thoughts?

He used to attack it a lot, then when he got paired with a big 7'6" guy that clogged the paint he backed off, you know why?

Because there was no room to get to the basket anymore.....

Tmac also was a pu55y. Thats pretty high on the list of things Carmello probably isnt.

That's false. TMac just didn't want to attack the rim.

    Carmelo has the WILL.

Majic Johnson didn't seem to have a problem with Kareem in the middle.

With the double teams Yao gets there will be a lane open you just have to find it. Tmac was not interested in that. He liked to take people off the dribble and draw double teams himself to show off his passing skills.

There is little argument really to back up the validity that he would make us worse unless we got rid of half our roster for him. There just isnt. We all know who Carmello Anthony is and most have seem him play alot in his career. There like zero argument against what he brings. We have all seen it. We know he can make us a better team.

You're going off the deep end. Dream didn't prevent Drexler and Max from attacking the rim.

Tmac is and always has been a chucker. He doesn't attack the rim, he's a jumpshooter

None of us think Tmac is better. At any point in his career unless your talking about Tmac in Orlando on a team he was the only scorer for. Everyone thinks. If we had Tmac? Yao Healthy for the Lakers? We beat them with Ron Artest in that year. Everyone thinks had Yao and Tmac both been healthy we get to the Finals or western Conference finals at least once. So even the Tmac arguments stink, because Carmelo would be the healthier version of Tmac if not better.
