So true. Houston is always used as leverage.

In the first trade scenerio we would still have Jordan Hill. Our bench wouldn't be bad at all I still think Jermaine Taylor is do for a breakout year.

Why would he put us on his short list if he doesn't want to be here? He wants to sign that extension. He doesn't want to wait until the new CBA to sign a new contract. As such, he just wouldn't put us on the list if he didn't want to come here. I suspect we got added because it seems more feasible than most of the other destinations on his wish list.

Melo has been a favorite player of mine ever since he wooped UT's ass during the championship run. Melo is would perfect in Adelman's offense since he operates out of the high post most of the time.

That's the ENTIRE POINT of this thread and this news - that apparently, the Rockets ARE on Carmelo's shortlist. It's not "just like" any of the guys in the past (is there anyone besides Bosh?) because for the life of me I don't remember sources claiming Houston was among his preferred teams.

This is exactly like the Tracy McGrady situation 5 years ago. Houston is on the short list and Houston has the most to offer in a trade. Only in this case, we aren't trading a player with a heart condition.

I still think we'll have to do a 3 way, they have Lawson who's under club control for some time while Brooks will be due a big pay raise soon. I can see them taking Lee, Hill, picks, but we'll have to provide them another asset, likely via a 3 way netting them a nice talent for Brooks. Oh, and we'll have to take Birdman for the TE we just got.

Brooks, Martin, Melo, Scola, and a healthy Yao would probably be the highest scoring starting five in the NBA. It would probably also be the worst defensive starting five in the NBA.

Now we really do not see eye to eye. Morey is waiting for the right player at the right time for the right price. Just grabbing any star player because you can, regardless of how he fits your system, Morey has clearly stated he will NOT do.

Clearly, you see assets very differently that Morey or I do. Thats all.

It's not possible for Melo to use us as leverage. His contract isn't even in question. He will get that max extension no matter where he goes (unless the Nuggets don't trade him and he becomes a free agent next year). This is just about what teams he has deemed an acceptable destination to be traded to. Because the only leverage he has is to make a short list of teams he'd be willing to sign that extension for. Obviously nobody will trade for him without assurances he'll sign the extension.

If we get Melo, and are able to keep Martin and Scola...I think Rockets should start Lowry instead.

Nope. Too many guys attacking the basket and drawing fouls already. You need an outside shooter. Plus, Lowry is not good enough in half court sets to be a starting point guard in the NBA.

Suppose we actually do get Carmelo Anthony. Is there a chance that he is just looking for a place to camp out before he makes the big free agency move? We won't end up with a one year rental would we?

We wouldn't trade for Carmelo unless he agrees to sign a multi-year extension with us simultaneously. There's no way we mortgage our future for a half-season rental.

Meh. Similar comments towards DM have been made in the past with the term fellatio.

We're all adults here for the most part.
