The Murphy deal leaves them around $2.5M of capspace

How long until they can include Murphy in a deal with other players? 30 days?

I disagree. Sure, they're not going to hurry if the deals look bad. But what happens if Melo comes into the new season sulking because he hasn't been traded? Or what if he is injured? Also, if they move now, they can always talk about all the other deals that are on the table or simply say they are willing to wait until something better comes along. By the deadline, that leverage is gone. Everyone will know they are desperate to move him and the packages that are on the table will be known among GM's by then. No, I think they're best off to move him before the season begins.

Like Morey said, "you have give up something good to get something good back."

Chris Bosh never once indicated any substantial interest in playing in Houston.

If this report is accurate, we could be on 'Melo's short list of teams AND be able to control the situation a little more-so than the Bosh situation based on what we have to offer.

but this is different because he won't be a free agent for another year and he wants to sign a contract extension NOW before the new CBA sets in. As such, he can't as effectively threaten to leave the Nuggets with nothing. Besides, he saw what that did for the image of Lebron and Bosh and I sincerely doubt he wants that.

If Melo really want to be traded now...all he have to do is tell management straight up that he will definitely leave this year and make no bone about it.

Morey is a genius. He probably assigned this scenario a probability a long time ago and unloaded Ariza knowing that he would probably acquire a star at SF at some point anyway, probably Anthony. And he paid Lowry a sizable long term contract, knowing that Brooks will probably be moved anyway and we will have a starter quality backup point guard secured.

On another note, if Denver trades Anthony, what use would they have for Chauncey Billups? He would be an old and still useful player on a rebuilding team. Maybe they take Brooks for Billups as part of the deal?

Maybe we end up giving Brooks, Martin, Battier, and Budinger as main players going to Denver in the deal and receive Anthony and Billups?

    Anthony and Billups
    Yao / Miller / Hayes
    Scola / Hayes / Patterson?
    Anthony / Lee
    Lee / Taylor?
    Billups / Lowry

We'd be awfully thinner on the bench but it's a lot easier to find serviceable backups than superstars so it's not too big of a problem. Our defense in the starting lineup would be much upgraded, replacing Brooks's D with Billups and Martin's D with Lee's.

This is a WCF team, barring injury.

Also, maybe there's a chance we wait until we can trade Scola after the season starts, and include Scola in a trade that gets us Birdman coming back, so we can start a shotblocking, rebounding power forward in Birdman to fill the Kelvin Cato role that was so effective next to Yao so many years ago. Scola, Martin, and Budinger as the main pieces for Anthony and Birdman?

    Anthony and Birdman
    Yao / Miller / Hayes
    Birdman / Hayes / Patterson?
    Anthony / Lee
    Lee / Taylor?
    Brooks / Lowry

Stronger interior defense, weaker perimeter defense. Our offense would be a little weaker but we get bigger and more athletic.

I think most of the rockets games would be spent at the free throw line if he came. Melo, Martin, Yao and Lowry all drawing fouls? count me in

I think he has already done that......

Does anyone know when Troy Murphy is eligible to be included in a trade with multiple pieces, it is 30 days, right?

The same for Courtney Lee here in Houston.....anyone, Buehler, Nikestrad, Bima, Gater, anyone?

Besides Yao and either one of kmart or scola, I would give up to get Melo. In fact I would be willing to trade DD's firstborn to get this done.

    Make it happen Morey!!

The only difference between free agency vs. trade is who's doing the playing. Bosh played us in free agency, Denver is trying to play us now. We're being used as a smokescreen because Morey is an active GM that will explore every avenue and has lots of assets. Don't believe for one second that Melo wants to come here or that Denver wants to trade him within the conference.

He really wants to be traded now. He's been making that clear all summer. He already sold his house in Denver. He's simply not demanding a trade. Demanding a trade can hurt your image. He's only asking to be traded. They know he isn't coming back. I really don't know what point you're trying to make here. Is anybody even talking about the possibility of Melo remaining anymore? Anybody? Even Denver's management? I haven't seen any mention of it in quite a while now.

Or, Rockets already knew Melo was available BEFORE trading Ariza...reducing their payroll/increasing flexibility to be able to handle Melos' extension.

If were on Melo's short list of teams, that would make us the favorites right now.

We have a lot of young talent, picks, and expiring contracts.

Well since Melo has to agree to an extension, this boils down to who does he want to play for...just like the guys that teased us in the past. So it's really not about what we can offer. It's about does he want to be here. Haven't we learned anything?

    Fool me once....
