Whatever happens, don't pick up the other Kmart. I can't stand looking at that dude's face.

We're going to have to give up either our Kmart or AB in a deal though. I think Kmart is more likely since we still need AB's dribble penetration. Lowry can penetrate, but doesn't keep defenses honest w/o a 3pt shot.

If the Rockets were to acquire Melo and still have Martin, it would be a good idea to start Lee and bring Martin off the bench.
It would give more balance between the starters and the bench.

    Line-up
    Brooks/Lowry/Ish
    Lee/Martin/???
    Melo/???/???
    Scola/???/???
    Yao/Miller/???

I hope you enjoy watching your team getting eliminated by the 1st or 2nd round than.

    What's wrong with you people?

    Hahaha love your post.

Honestly though, I wouldn't mind parting with K-Mart to get Melo. Courtney Lee is more than ready to start for us at the 2 spot.

How's Melo's defense btw? Don't get to watch a lot of Nuggets games.

I would love to keep AB but I don't think that's realistic in this scenario.

If I had to pick between Martin and AB, I would choose Martin.

I actually went to Syracuse and I'm still not a Melo fan. That said, I'd be all over this. Fact of the matter is that nobody better is going to be available to us. NOBODY. We can't get a superstar through free agency. Trade is all that is available to us and who is going to go on the market that is going to be better than Melo? Chris Paul is really the only other possibility. And as good as Paul is, a point guard like him isn't really necessary in Adelman's system and good point guards are a lot more common that good wingmen.

I think this can get done without giving up any of our starters too. That's very appealing. I'm somewhat concerned that in order to get this done they'll make us use our trade exception to pick up J.R. Smith. I hate him more than any player in the league. And yet still, I'd do it.

You mean Carl Landry, the second round gem?? Way to contradict yourself.
Maybe if you understood how things work a little better you would see what a great GM we have.

Hmm. So much arguing going on...

Guys, you forget that Daryl Morey is our General Manager. He really has yet to disappoint.

Morey will assess what Melo is worth and offer a fair deal for both sides. He's the one that's paid to number crunch and know the true value of players...

If he's on DD's boat and thinks Melo is a chucker, he probably won't offer much. But I guarantee he makes an offer.

I'm no expert, but with that trade exception we have & our draft picks, we could probably attain Melo at a fair price.

I understand EXACTLY what you are saying, I don't like him much either, but he is a talent, for sure.

And if they can pick him up for the right price, then why not?

But, I hear ya, it won't be a popular opinion with the peanut gallery right now...lol.

I am wondering if this new development is just the Nuggets using a page from Morey's book to get NYK to up their offer. If Carmelo will only go to NY and they can freely sign him, there isn't any incentive for NY to give up much. By adding a couple of possible "other" partners, now NY must think about having to give up more - maybe much more - even if there is no truth to this.

Carmelo isn't LeBron or in-his-prime Kobe, but he's easily a top 8 player today, and would take us from a ~50 win team hoping to make the second round to a ~55+ win team hoping to make the Finals.

You have to pursue this as hard as you can.

    NYK will offer:
    Curry - Gallinari - Randolph - 2nd rd pick(s)

    Dallas will offer:
    Chandler - Butler - 1st rd pick

    NJN will offer:
Troy Murphy - Derrick Favors - Damion James - Other (Petro? Williams?) - 1st rd pick

    Houston has to top that.
    Jeffries - Hayes - Hill - Patterson - Budinger - Taylor - Lull rights - Knicks 2011, 2012 picks
    or
    Jeffries - Battier - Hill - Budinger - Lull rights - Knicks 2011, 2012 picks

My opening offer, with the condition that Carmelo signs extension.

Martin - Jeffries - Taylor - Lull rights - 2011 Knicks first rounder is my higher offer

Martin - Battier - Hill - both Knicks picks is my highest offer

    CBud is....

    ;)

Yes you can, you just need his permission....and if he gets a starting gig...then why not? I mean he signed to start in CLEVELAND for crying out loud, doesn't that tell you how bad he wanted to start?

I think Carmelo Anthony would thrive in Adelman's system. Unlike Bosh, I really don't think Denver/Anthony are using us as leverage.

    Wow.

You guys rate every single player on this team. EVERYONE except Yao is expendable. And half the players you overrate are not as good as you think they are.

Hill? Scrub in most teams' eyes.
Budinger? Scrub in most teams' eyes.

Melo is the real deal. I would gladly give up a quarter of our roster and some picks to make this trade happen.

If we trade both KMart and Brooks we would have to find a way to get Billups back. I would be fine with that though.

Carmello is not going to come without splitting at least some member of the core. If NJ is willing to part with Favors we are going to have to up the ante the Rockets decide they want Carmelo.Taking back salary in the form of Bird Man's long moderately crappy contract is a likely possibility. We dont have any stud young prospect but we do have a plethora of very good young assets.

Asian Sensation there is no way we give up Brooks and get back Lawson. In that package Brooks would be their main asset. They are not going to hand back one of their most valuable assets because they have a logjam at the position. You keep the asset and trade him later.

    But Morey won't.....

    ;)

He is a better horse trader than that.
