THIS. Teams without stars are teams without respect. The refs favor The Names, period.

Whether or not Melo would win rings here in Houston (which would no doubt NOT SUCK), he'll bring excitement, sell tickets, and get the team on TV. Les rakes in more cash and can afford to go after the free agents who'll want to come here to play.

He is not similar. He's a much better scorer and frankly much better at everything. Magette might be = on going to the basket but that's about it.

    Melo is a superstar.

    I'm talking about..

    1) Lebron
1a. Kobe (whatever i dont care)
    2) Wade
    3) Durant
    4) Howard
    5) Melo
    5a. Cp3

We need a superstar to win a title. Not a bunch of really good players. Yao is amazing when healthy and is possibly the best center in the NBA but he hasn't proven anything and nothing garunteed with him.

    Make this move a priority.

This post deserves some negative rep.

Melo might have some motivational issues, but guys with his abilities are limited in this league. He is worth the risk......

I was referencing him being a "Chucker" and not all that good a shooter.

You were being "Stupid" by insinuating that the people rumored in the trade had anything to do with my thoughts.

Crap, did not want to hear this. Anyway...

    1. Don't want him because I think he will clash with our identity.
    2. Can't deny his talent.
    3. I've been known to be forgiving.
    4. If he chooses Houston for more than a year, he'll have my support.
    5. He has a better chance to garner a ring with us versus NY or NJ.
    6. We have a better chance to garner a ring with him.

Personally, this would feel like eating a $100 plate in some fancy restaurant but not really liking the entre. So, I'll eat liver for the team.

Well it wouldn't be smart on Morey to gut the team for Melo. He has enough assets to work a deal for Denver. You just have to be smart about it.

I still think Melo is using Houston though. I hope i'm wrong though.

Really? Calling him that is the equivalent of tossing a grenade into a foxhole, or yelling fire in a movie theatre.

It breaks it down fairly well...

The Nuggets are $11,843,763 over the tax.

    Melo + Billups
    for→ Brooks + Patterson + Hill + Battier + Hayes + Jeffries + Harris (non-guaranteed) + Johnson (n.g.)
    $30,299,243 - $22,720,192
    Nuggets reduce payroll by $7,579,051.

The Nuggets currently have 12 players signed. As this trade would leave them with 16 guaranteed contracts a third team may need to be involved. This could benefit all 3 teams:

Pacers are looking for a PF, have TE to absorb Hayes's contract. Nuggets cut further salary. Rockets could ask for the rights to Magnum Rolle from the Pacers as they'll be in need of min contract big men.

So if Hayes is moved to the Pacers.
The Nuggets reduce payroll by $9,551,551.

Leaving Denver with only $2,292,212 to cut before the trade deadline.

    Brooks, Lawson, Carter (exp),
    Afflalo, JR (exp), Jeffries (exp),
    Harrington, Battier (expiring), Balkman
    Kenyon (exp), Patterson, Andersen
    Nene, Hill, Shelden (exp)

    Billups, Lowry
    Martin, Lee, Taylor
    Melo, Budinger
Scola, Rolle (rights via IND), Johnson (re-signed after waived by DEN)
    Miller, Yao

In a bubble, Carmelo, alone, is not enough. He's not on the level of a Wade or Bron that can single-handedly take a team to the finals. Fortunately, I don't think our GM is stupid enough to ask him to do that. There's no point in getting the team in order to pair him with Yao alone, because he would end up being McG 2.0. We need to hold onto efficient, productive players that complement him, ala Martin, but are threats within their own right.

Look at it this way, how much better would Denver's chances against LA have been if JR Smith had the efficiency and efficacy of Kevin Martin? How much better would they have been if they had Lee and Battier guarding Kobe, as opposed to Kenyon Martin? Throw in (hopefully) another legitimate post threat in Yao...Well, that's the situation we're looking at as long as we center the deal around Brooks, Hill, JJ, etc. I don't think they'd necessarily have to throw in Bud, since Denver has very little leverage own this, so toss him in the mix as a floor spacing slashed for Martin and Melo to play off of. That...is a championship contender.

My only problem with Melo is that he appears to lack effort at times and be a diva.

For the past year or two our roster has had that grungy no back down mentality and 100% effort every night.

If Melo can come in and put full effort every night and not be a princess then it's fine by me.

As long as I see the same effort from previous years we'll be good.

    28 ppg
    6.6 rpg
    46% fg

    Where do I freakin sign?

    Lowry
    Martin
    Melo
    Scola
    Yao

    That's a true contender.
