Well they still have to put butts in the seats but that's going to happen in Houston regardless as NRG stadium will be full no matter what. Look: BoB is no dummy - a bit too arrogant and defensive for my tastes but no dummy. He is trying to give this team its best chance at winning however meager that chance is with Hoyer as the QB. It's clearly obvious that the Texans are kicking the QB can down the road for another year in the hopes that they can thread water until they find that "guy". In the meantime, they will rely on the defense to keep them in games until the offense can scare up enough points to have a shot at winning. Oh well, I have resigned myself to the passage of yet another year of the same old same old but this is nothing new to someone who grew up with the disaster that was the Houston Oilers.
I just hope this team isn't stuck in limbo looking for the temporary "best option" instead of the future, like the Astros of the 2000's...granted the couple of years of success in the post season was fun
This. I am not even mad about it.... it is just what it is, yet another year where we fall between 5-10 wins and at BEST get our teeth kicked in during a wild card game.
Strange presumption given that they've never lost a wild card game... would they really get their teeth kicked in vs. the Bengals, Dolphins, Chargers, Ravens, Steelers or even Kubiak-led Broncos? Colts, Pats are the class of the AFC.... everybody else is everybody else (and if their defense plays up to potential, they can beat the Colts at NRG).
only texans fans that would have been pissed with the carr pick would have been the dumb idiots who still holding a grudge for his brother. whoever a texans fan and follows cfb knows carr can play. i would have been happy with the pick over XSF.
with our defense, we will not get our teeth kicked in. my dream scenarios for the qb position... A.)Hoyer resurrects a career , 3,500 yards/24 tds/13 ints. Very doable with a healthy running game. B.) Hoyer sinks, 1-3 record to start the season. in game five, he gets knocked out, nothing serious just 8 games, thus allowing Savage or Mallet to take over. c) Should scenario A and B fail, it forces us to finally address QB in the draft with 1st/2nd or 3rd round pick. I think it's the correct and only approach. we're in the same boat seattle was, but their coach took a leap of faith with that virgin baseball playing qb. what i don't want is to go 8-8,8-8,8-8, with an older qb. That would be a nightmare.
Well, yeah... only an idiot would think he would be exactly the same as his brother. Siblings in sports are often completely different... usually one is good and one is mediocre (Mannings, McEnroes, Uptons). However, Carr still has a lot of questions surrounding him in Oakland... and didn't have the pedigree that BOB values (Big 10 conference).
Not a strange presumption, very few teams historically with a QB as bad as Hoyer/Fitz get very far in the playoffs. Also the two times the Texans won in the wild card round, they were clearly the better and more talented team. No I don't think that the Texans would beat the Bengals, Dolphins, Chargers, Ravens, Steelers or Broncos if they faced them in the playoffs. Football is a game where there is a lot of unpredictability, but it is also a game where QB play matters and I don't have confidence in the Texans QB's in a playoff atmosphere.
They did win a playoff game, and were competitive on the road, with freakin T.J. Yates.... lets calm down on the whole "playoff atomsphere" rhetoric. Getting beat is one thing... but getting teeth kicked in? C'mon. Fans of those teams could just as easily say they don't have a lot of confidence in Dalton, Tannehill, regular season Flacco... there's plenty of question marks with the Kubiak/Manning marriage and the Steelers have injury issues already. Hell, Case Keenum beat the Ravens last year in a game both teams were trying hard to win. Like I said earlier, you have the Pats, Colts... and everybody else.
All it takes is one injury to the Colts to bring us back to the top and win the division... Jokes Aside. What scares me to death about Hoyer is you never know what you are going to get. He's 50/50. We need him to step up or else Mallett will be taking over at week 8 (4-4) and all along we could have just stuck Mallett in there... This team has the potential to shock the league. And yes... I believe we can beat said Wild Card teams any given day due to our defense.
What choice do they have? They are one of the 20-something other NFL teams without a franchise QB. Not exactly a unique situation in today's NFL. And not exactly a reason to give up all hope of having a good season.
Don't worry help is on the way via the stacked 2016 draft. Here's a list of Todd McShay's top-10 QBs: Jared Goff, Cal Cardale Jones, Ohio State Christian Hackenberg, Penn State Connor Cook, Mich State Cody Kessler, USC Jacoby Brissett, NC State Dak Prescott, Miss State Carson Wentz, ND State Taysom Hill, BYU Kevin Hogan, Stanford
According to some, you're supposed to keep drafting a QB high every year till you find "the one"... Its amazing how few long-lasting true superstar QB's there have been over the last 20 years... there have been a lot of short-term wonders, a lot of failures, and a lot of money/draft picks wasted.
Getting past your strange wording.... the correct answer is still that only a few teams have a true franchise QB.
even in some of the best QB draft classes ever, you're still looking at maybe 3 "saviour" type QBs. The best QB draft class of the last 20 years or so would be 2004, where you had Eli, Ben, and Rivers. After that you have guys like Matt Schaub in that class. Because Schaub had a decent enough 6 year run there, his value in the 3rd round there is pretty good... Just pointing out 2-3 of the guys above might pan out. Then it's a matter of figuring out which 2/3, and how to be in position to take them... Finding that QB is tough tough tough. But it CERTAINLY is better that the class seems better. You're not / unlikely to draft a great QB in a bad QB draft class I don't think it has to be high, but certainly there is an importance to drafting QBs regularly. Which is why you still see Bill Bellichek do it. And why the Packers select Aaron Rodgers when Favre is still really good. I wouldn't advocate trading all your picks for the top slot unless it is an absolute no brainer... but in those cases the opposing team doesn't even do those deals (eg. the Colts wouldn't have traded their #1 pick for 5 future #1s when they got Luck). But I have no problem with a 1-4 round QB selected every year. It's a multiplier of importance of a position above any other, and almost all teams set at QB are so through drafting. Yes, there are also teams that suck that continue to spend draft pick after draft pick on QBs that don't pan out. So it does come down to scouting, having guys who can really gauge QB prospects, etc. Theoretically, that is Bill O'Brien. It's too early to judge the 2014 draft as it relates to QBs. Certainly, he might be remembered for passing up on Bridgewater when it seems like they were in position to move up one spot if they really wanted him... We shall see.
