They have 40 mil they can get AJ and Murray. Reggie Wayne is pretty much done.

I think Seattle makes the most sense. They really need a WR.

Do they really? They were a 1 yard run away from being back-to-back Super Bowl champs.... they may go after him, but they won't overpay to get him.

Just playing devils advocate here, but AJ wouldn't have been out manned on that slant route:eek:

We have seen players in Johnson's situation last year fetch decent returns in trades. We argued about this endlessly last offseason. The examples have been listed.

We could have, and should have, traded him last year before free agency hit.

My guess is McNair didn't want to let go, and once Johnson started pouting, it became a posturing situation of not wanting to appear to give in to player demands.

It is time for him to move on - he was great is in decline and not worth the contract.

I might be missing something but I think it was just a factor of the Texans having little to gain with no cap relief.

If I understand the math right...

Cap savings if we trade/cut him last year = 3.7 million in 2014 + 16.1 million in 2015

Cap savings if we trade/cut him this year = 8.8 million

Like I said already, Johnson's cap savings for 2014 was not really important. It's the 2015 number that is important (we have some key FAs to pay now). We could have essentially doubled our savings by parting ways last year. And probably gotten a semi-decent pick for him, too.

The only two ways I could see being in favor of keeping him around for 2014 are if you are either an Andre die-hard loyalist or if you believed the Texans had a chance at making the playoffs. I was neither.

I can't think of many 33+-year old players owed as much as Johnson who were dealt - let alone fetched a "decent" return. Bolden comes to mind - he wasn't owed as much as Johnson and netted a 6th round pick.

He had/has practically zero trade value.

Mind you, this was last year. A year young, a year cheaper.

Andre has pretty much zero trade value now.

In other words, we know as well as you that nobody is gonna want Andre on their team at that cap number so I'm not wasting my time. Cut him already so we can select our destination.

Andre gets paid a lot more if his agent can find a team willing to trade for him and his contract, right?

If he has to negotiate a new deal now, then he's not getting paid anywhere near what this last contract was.

Yeah I misread the tweet, thought it said he did not ask to get cut or get traded.

What the Texans do after Andre is gone is going to show exactly where this franchise is headed in the future.
