COOKIES!! Yeah, when my two kids, bless 'em, were little, they would have gone crazy after seeing that, dragging me to the kitchen in search of "Chocaship koookies, Daddy! Now!!! Puhleze?"

After reading this article, Asick would have decided to be out of game for the rest of season.

You are both so wrong, it's hilarious. Morey is a great GM, but he doesn't have a magic crystal ball that allows him to see into the future. He had no idea whether Dwight would sign with the Rockets, none, and he wasn't going to pass up adding Asik to the roster, nor should he have. The "poison pill" contract was the cost of adding both Asik and Lin to the roster. Lin, much like Asik, became non essential once Harden arrived, but Morey had no way of predicting Harden, just like he had no way of predicting Dwight. This is arm chair quarterbacking at it's worst.

Agreed. For Morey to have done it otherwise would have been terrible. Imagine if we didn't have Asik for last season...I could see Dwight not even choosing to come here because we'd be that terrible. Certainly miss the playoffs...

All of it is about being in the best position possible to take advantage of opportunities, not that it always works out. Hindsight is 20/20. Besides, if Asik had decided to play ball (pun intended), I would be pretty happy with our current roster. As of now, I fee like, personnel-wise, what our team needs is.........a defensive backup center. Oh hey there Asik!

Wonder if we assured Lin that we wouldn't bring in an American from a Russian league to ultimately replace him.

I admit I might have missed something, but I think the reference of the mistake Morey made...

...would be more to not trading Asik last summer when he first requested a trade, not to having signed him in the first place.

Now we have something of a mess.

I'm not defending Asik, but $10,000,000 a year ($5 this season, $15 next) to play 16 mpg (tops, crappy-Twin-Towers-delusion notwithstanding)? I don't blame him for wanting out, although he and his former agent should be handcuffed to a urinal and d***-slapped for how they handled it.

I think Dwight and the rest of the team wanted Morey to keep Asik. They voiced their opinions on it loudly immediately after Howard signed. Morey had as much leverage then than he did now. Teams knew Asik would want to start and that Morey would be looking to move him.

    Where do I start....

    1) Crystal ball? We signed Dwight early off season. We had PLENTY time to move Asik but chose not to trade him, knowing he was disgruntled. It was a very well known risk that backfired in the organization's face. Huge mistake, falls on Morey

    2) Giving Lin that contract after only 20 games was a bad move. After a season in a half, he's already been outplayed and benched by his backup. Should've kept Dragic. This falls on Morey.

Morey has done a solid job and deserves credit. But stop playing him up to be untouchable. Asik asked for a trade this offseason and Morey not only kept him but promised him a starting role. He signed Lin thinking he was a player to build around, which is imo stupid. Now we're stuck with both and apparently nobody wants them at that price

I think it was a good thing that Morey did not trade Asik yet, with Horford and Lopez being out,the whole Bynum thing and now the Bulls looking to trade Deng,we could net something great.
All Asik needs to do now is play so he can show everyone he is a great Center.

I feels ya, and hindsight is 20/20, but certainly there must be a player out there with a smidgen of talent to back up DH12 without spending $10,000,000 on a pouting giant.

Everyone in the league knew Twin Towers was doomed to failure but Morey chose to whistle through the graveyard.

Don't get me wrong, it'll all work out in the end. Certainly Morey got us our superstars.

I don't see anyone arguing we shouldn't have signed Asik in the first place. But, he's had a few opportunities to do things differently since. Maybe none were better, but the path he did choose hasn't turned out well. Sure, it's hindsight, but hindsight is what we use to see mistakes. If hindsight was an excuse, most GM mistakes could be explained away. I agree with you he's a good GM, but he does make mistakes occassionally.

I think in this case, he made a bet on Twin Towers. If Twin Towers had worked, the need to trade would be diminished, and the value of the asset would have been increased. He lost the bet on Twin Towers.
