Deuce I'll be happy with a good defensive coach and offensive assistant that will hold Harden accountable.
By which criteria are you using that backs this up? Regular season records? Playoff records? Twitter feeds? Now that's just mean... In a sense, yes but I do recall posting that the 2015-2016 season was going to be a critical one for the Rockets and Howard because of his ability to op-out and become a free agent. I didn't then nor do I believe now that Howard was committed to winning a championship - I believe that he's only in it for the money. And this is one of the so-called pillars of the team. Also, last year's WCF exposed a number of issues that precluded their advancement - issues that Morey simply failed to address in the offseason. But it was his firing of Mchale after just 11 games (certainly an unexpected move from "one of the best GMs") that threw the entire organization into disarray with the accompanying dismal results. The key word here is TRUST. I admit to being a bit cynical here. After all we're talking about a GM whose teams have only made it out of the first round of the playoffs twice in ten years. I have a hard time trusting the guy whose decisions created the mess being the right guy to fix said mess.
Vogel or JVG (would prefer JVG) what scares me- is there seem to be no movement by the Rockets, (Hoping there just tight lipped about it) We should see
Normally I'd agree with you but the hiring of Mchale being Les' decision makes no sense to me because it was so out of left field. I can see Les going with a Mario Ellie or Sam Cassell - even someone out of the hated Spurs org but this was somewhat of a reach pick. McHale had just crashed and burned in Minny and I see no way he could have appealed to Les at all. It wasn't like he was in hot demand at that time. No, this had to be a Daryl Morey pick.
I think Les has final say, but Morey interviews them, and puts the ones he likes in front of Les. There is plenty of blame to go around in hiring McHale. DD
No. Daryl and his staff come up with a long list of possible candidates and present and discuss the list with Les. If there are names Les wants interviewed on the list, the Rockets attempt to get an interview. Also Les sits in and is actively involved in most of the interviews. Les has given Daryl wide latitude to spend money and do what he wants, but Les is kept in the loop and at times has no issue telling Daryl what to do. The decision to hire McHale was Les'.
I'm no Morey supporter... But there's a big difference between putting candidates in front of the decision maker and actually making the decision. Especially with NBA coaches, any member of Clutchfans could've rounded up a list of the most qualified coaches worth taking a look at and provided it to Les. Hell, Les could do it himself. So if Les is the one that chooses the coach, then it begins and ends there.
Morey probably told each coach to "wait" during the interview, Lololol. "sure, Morey! we can wait!!“- the coach later calls his agent," I'll sign wherever, as usual the Rockets want to wait to look for the best options, so they're waiting to make sure Kerr/Popovich aren't suddenly available ". Both laugh... Sound familiar, haha Oh, or Les is busy in the Vineyard... Oh well, next year, guys!!!
Morey wasn't a "name" hire. Obviously the trend is to hire name coaches, but he's shown he's willing to go out of the box.
