My argument was not to say DMo should not be signed. My argument was that I no longer valued his post game that much.

And I didn't dispute your argument by disregarding it as theory. I disputed it with actual history. If you're going to come at me with a hypothetical that hasn't happened, it's a bad argument to point that out? You're better than that.

DMo is essentially free for Rockets as they are over cap, have bird rights, aren't close to tax apron, and well within what Les is willing to pay. DMo won't be a central point of offense...except for being able to space the floor and be able to score at rim. I don't see the Rockets posting him up as the first action, but I could see it as a final action if DMo gets a deep post up caused by movement. I see the post up skills being overstated in this offesne, but his ability to score inside should not be.

Still, if the concern is to have a durable big b/c our frontline is thin, DMo is the last guy I am relying on. DMo is a roll of the dice. Could be great and outplay his contract. Could be a complete write-off. Because of his posturing & desperation for a long-term deal, I'm guessing he will be a writeoff unfortunately

The alternative is nothing. A one year gamble > nothing imo.
An injury to Nene and Rhyno with both of them missing at least 10 games will not be even considered bad luck with their trackrecord. Then what? Capela the foul machine?

OK, this makes it more valuable in the context of movement. I don't usually think about posting up in that way. You could be right. That's why I threw out the challenge to convince me. I know I'm not always right.

If it is a writeoff..it is a writeoff which would hurt the Rockets the same amount as if they didn't sign him. Signing DMo to what the Rockets have reportedly offered has no downside. He has one good game....it is likely worth it because his bird rights only apply to him.

I think his three point shooting, ability to finish at rim (it is good to be tall with touch), and defense are much more important than his posting up. The combination of inside and outside threat is important as it means he's got options of where to go when defender helps or is following the ball.

Just hoping he can stay healthy.

Well, my main question was whether DMo's post-up skills are all that valuable. My reasoning was his posting up took us out of our offense - new set - does not complement anything. You presented a way that DMo's posting up is helpful in our base offense. That's why I liked your post.

On the other argument, a reason was given to keep DMo b/c we need depth. Economics aside, I argue that DMo of al people will not solve any depth issues. You can sign him for other reasons. But if you are staying up at night over depth concerns, you aren't going to be sleeping easy as soon as you sign DMo.

This was what I was actually disputing; what D-Mo's post game had done is not theory, but everything that will happen going into this new season is all theory, hence making it a weak argument IMO. This is why a lot of us value it, because it is proven as it HAS HAPPENED, though not in the playoffs. What D-Mo has done, especially considering his post game, IS actual history. When Harden sat or our offense sagged (usually the former caused the latter), D-Mo had stepped up. This is not theory, this is fact. Now how this might perform considering D-Mo's back injury, a new coach, and a new system, that will be theory, but the same applies for how Anderson, Nene, and Ego will do as well. It's fine though. I value his post game, because I believe you can never have too many weapons or too many different weapons on offense and / or defense. /shrugs

On the depth concern, the Rockets don't have a plethora of rotation bigs. DMo is the only guy that can space the floor and play post defense among non-starters. Every minute that he plays is depth the Rockets don't have. The choice is between DMo and keeping a guy that will be playing in RGV. DMo isn't a cure-all for Rockets problems, but odds are he helps the depth more in the NBA than some guy that will be sent to the D League.

I would rather have 3 injury prone players if the third is dmo rather than 2 injury prone in the front court with onuoko backing them up. Unless you can think of a better player available out there that can help behind injury prone Ryan Anderson and injury prone Nene

According to your "source", why hasn't he signed yet if there is an agreement? Doesn't your "source" think he should be trying to play in the last 2 preseason games so he can get ready for the regular season to up his value and contract for next year?

Lol my " "source" " wasn't Dmo so he obviously couldn't answer for him. In my opinion Dmo knows there will be at least one offer for him from the rockets, but he wants more. More money and more years. In my opinion Dmo isn't confident in his own health and his own ability to prove everyone wrong and have a good year in order to get a real contract next season. Which is why he probably wants a multi year contract as insurance. The rockets only want to offer him one year. Dmo is probably waiting, hoping the team changes their mind. But as of now Dmo has no leverage. Dmo is also probably hoping that some big, either a 4 or 5, gets injured during the pre season so that other teams will take a look and take a chance on him, and hopefully offer him a better contract than the rockets are willing to. Or he can use that new offer as some leverage to force the rockets to either increase their number of years or salary.

Nothing addresses injury concerns more than signing the biggest injury risk in the league.

This is where we disagree, and I am fine with agreeing to disagree. DMo has scored with efficiency but never enough volume to make it a huge deal. People around here make it out like 2014-15 DMo to Harden was like Kyrie to Lebron.

TBH dmo would be a valuable big off the bench. I certainly would rather him get the back big minutes that Harrell will receive if he's not brought back.

With dmo you can at least play him like you play with Nene, in that you can run him at the high post and have him hit cutters. He is a talented passer after all. He also is able to step out and hit the corner three at a decent clip.

I don't see how anyone would not want to bring him back for one year. It's always good to have talented players especially bigs on the roster.

On a side note I'll say it here. Capela is a very good and has a chance to be great. His finishing around the hoop is getting better and his rebounding is much improved. I even like his passing he's getting much better at hitting cutters and kick outs.

You have to realize with the exception of like 2 people who could possibly be the same people :p there is literally no one else who believes DMo is anywhere close to being like Harden, Kyrie, or Lebron. What most are hoping for is that he signs a 2-year contract with a TO for an amount around the QO so we can see what we have and how much we are willing to pay and lock him up.
