Really...I don't understand how that could possibly be considered a tragicomedy. It's the most depressing and tragic of any piece of literature. Even seeing this poster makes me sad. Now stalking planes to see where DMO lands is a comedy.
Not to mention that more often than not, Ariza is wearing a uniform on game day. Same can't be said for Parsons lately.
I hate this kind of revisionist history or cherry picking. You're acting as if we could have a team with Lowry, Harden, Parsons and Dragic as our sixth man but that isn't how it works. 1. we did't let Lowry walk because he was too expensive. We needed to rebuild and traded him for a 1st round pick from Toronto. That first round pick was the key component in the Harden trade. I'm pretty good with how that worked out. 2. Dragic is pretty good. I'd like to add him to this team NOW, but there was little point in giving him a max contract at the time when we had NO all-stars. Dragic is a good third best option but why on earth would you give him a flexibility killing max contract when you still need to acquire an actual center piece to build around? 3. Parsons might be better than Ariza but it isn't by much and Ariza has been far more durable. Ask Dallas if they felt like Parsons was a good value at a max contract. Ask Memphis fans (Paging What) how he's feeling about Parsons on a max contract right now. And now you're worried that Morey playing hardball with a guy who couldn't pass a physical in Detroit is hurting us? Come on, man! I love a healthy D-Mo but it's been a while since I've seen that guy. He should sign the tender and play the season out. If he's as good as he thinks he is he'll get a max contract in the off season. D-Mo and his agents are the ones being unreasonable here. I don't blame Morey one bit for being hesitant to give this guy big money long term.
Parsons is not better than Ariza if you take defense and offense in the past two seasons. Parsons is not a better passer, not a better rebounder, not anywhere near a better stealer. He is a better scorer than Ariza. However much Parsons is better than Ariza on offense, Ariza is at least that much better on defense. It's a wash on the floor, and that's because Parsons has not improved at all. At the time of the swap, it was anticipated that Parsons would get better and he didn't. A case could be made that he in fact at about the same rate Ariza has declined, which is terrible for a player Parson's age. That's not all. Parsons has given his team 127 games (3,985 minutes) at $30 million the last 2 years. Ariza has given his team 163 games (5,789 minutes) at $16.6 million in the last 2 years. That's still not all. Trevor Ariza was a key component of a team that went to the WCF 1 of those 2 years while Parsons has done f***-all in that time in terms of team achievements. Letting Parsons walk was the right thing to do. It wasn't so clear at the time, but it is certainly clear in hindsight. Morey's back up plan was so swift and well thought out, the loss of a key FA basically didn't cause a ripple in our performance. If the comparative performance is not enough to make you see that, then at least look at how Cuban let him walk despite being in desperate need of talent. Incredible that someone would even suggest this. Ariza has been such a fantastic asset for this team. We would have had Chandler Parsons guarding the best opposing wing when he would be healthy next to Harden's defensive disappearing act. We would have been royally screwed. Ariza has been an awesome Rocket, no matter what his future here I'll be very happy with what he gave this team.
Morey didn't hire McHale, that was Les's decision. Morey was looking at Vogel before the Pacers got him and wanted to give him an interview again this off season.
You don't make a convincing argument for firing Morey when you show little understanding of basketball as well. By what metric has Parsons been better than Ariza? Parsons has been injured every year since he left Houston! Ariza has been working his ass off every since he arrived, guarding the other team's best player and shooting a respectable % from the 3. I know in what if they were completely healthy world Parsons would've been better than Ariza, but unfortunately reality doesn't work that way and Better than Ariza Parsons can sit together with Most dominant big ever Yao Ming and Multi year champion Ralph Sampson. Dragic was not on Morey, it was on Les Alexander who wanted Jeremy Lin at all costs after he blew up during Linsanity. Lowry was traded for the pick that essentially became James Harden, you want Lowry over Harden at this point? Even crazier is Morey is the one guy who got all these players, Parsons, Dragic and Lowry were all low ball pickups Morey did, so by firing him because he let these good players go you are firing the guy who got these guys in the first place. Les Alexander has not been burning money for the Rockets, but neither is he cheap, in fact the Rox have operated just below the luxury tax line all these years and said he wouldn't mind paying luxury tax if the team is good enough. In fact, he put his money where his mouth is when the Rockets tried to get Chris Bosh and still pay Parsons his max contract, if Bosh had agreed then the Rox would've paid luxury tax just to keep Parsons on the team. Not only that Rockets coaches have always been big names starting from Rudy T to JVG to Rick Adelman, Mchale and now MDA. All these coaches are established brands and cost a lot of money, a cheap owner would've gotten someone like JB Bickerstaff from the start to coach the team. How is that a cheap owner? It's just baseless rhetoric you keep saying without any factual basis behind it. I know your patent argument is you don't care about money since you're not the one signing the checks so all you wanna do is care about player talent, but if you don't even have a basic understanding of how the NBA salary cap works what right do you have to criticize the job Morey has been doing? Unlike you Morey can't close his eyes, ears and mind to player salaries, it would the destroy the team if he just signs people based on player talent alone we would have overpaid players left and right like what Billy King did in New Jersey. So if you just ignore a very important consideration in signing players then what's the point of your criticism? Of course people will always have different views, but I don't think criticisms born out of ignorance of the facts should count as valid opinions.
Indeed. I'm sure there will be ten new threads popping up in the event there is real news on DMo in any case.
Everyone who has said this demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of inside information. OP can only give a snapshot of a moment in time. You don't have any reason to believe he was wrong. Things change by the minute in the NBA.
