This f%&#ing agent is ruining the poor kid's Career. Unbelievable. No idea why D-mo didn't kick his poor arse to the curve
Common place? I don't know about that. DMo has missed training camp, hasn't played in the new system, and will have a lot rust to shake off against actual NBA competition. Seems if DMo wants money then he should prove he deserves it. He may risk losing a lucrative max contract at this point he holds out to the deadline.
D-Mo's career is 100% dependent on how he performs this season. How does it help him that he's missed training camp, preseason, and now games? It will take him a couple of weeks of practice and a couple of weeks of getting into game shape before he can start to attempt to recapture the form we're hoping for. Right now there are two possible outcomes: - Play for 2 years with the second year being a team option or partial guarantee. - Never play in the NBA again. He won't be given permission to work out for other teams. He won't fetch anything Morey would accept in a trade. Nothing is going to change. What's worse is the players understand what's going on probably better than we do. Obviously business is business and you can't begrudge someone that, but at what point do the players start getting annoyed that he's holding out because he's bitter rather than because a better situation can present itself? The coach and franchise player have publicly stated they want him back. There is no more that can be done for him. D-Mo needs to fire his agent immediately and take whatever is being offered by the Rockets. I'm a Houston Rockets fan, I don't take kindly to an RFA sitting out and watching for injuries so they can improve their bargaining position.
You guys must be young, holdouts have happened for as long as there were contracts. This is nothing. DD
That's a terrible analogy. Elway was the #1 overall pick of the draft and he was traded (May 2,1983) , 6 days after being drafted by the Colts (April 26,1983). Not only didn't he miss any games, he didn't even miss any offseason activities. There's lot's of examples of guys holding out, I'm not sure why you chose Elway as an example. A healthy #1 overall pick in the draft being traded 6 days after the draft bears no similarity to D-Mo's situation.
You guys need to stop derailing the thread further. Who the F is Elway? Never heard of him before. Our very own Ralph Sampson was the # 1 overall pick in 1983. http://www.basketball-reference.com/draft/NBA_1983.html
They happen, but its not commonplace for it to go into the season. It's very odd DMo would lower his value like this by holding for this long.
Also, Elway could conceivably force something out of the situation. Maybe another trade. Or maybe his agent sucked too. D-Mo can't force anything out of the Rockets. Even more important: Daryl Morey will not budge and he won't jeopardize a dime of next summer's cap space. If anything he'll be sitting in his office concocting some madman contract structure that would be beneficial in trade next summer if need be.
Elway had played minor league baseball for the Yankees and had an offer on the table from them. His threat to the Colts was that he would go play baseball rather than football. That wasn't an empty threat, Elway could have done exactly what Bo Jackson would later do, go play baseball for 1 season and them be eligible for the following season's NFL draft (Jackson drafted by Tampa Bay and then by Oakland the following year).
lmao this thread gets better and better. What's up for debate next? Global warming and how it affects DMO's chances to sign before Christmas.
At this point, there really is no point in holding out. The player is losing valuable experience and money. There is nothing to be gained from this and the agent needs to be fired....he played this all wrong.
Agreed. IMO he should have signed the QO, but he'll probably want more to make up for what he's lost now so this could go on a lot longer.
Ironic that You-Bobby would tell others they're clueless on this. I asked the Bobby version of you two direct questions that he can't answer. Can this version of you answer them?
Elway had the leverage of New York Yankees minor league contract and being the top QB prospect. DMo is less accomplished back up forward coming off a back injury and a failed physical. So, there is a slight flaw to your analogy.
I have heard this "failed physical" a couple times now. Is that a physical taken this pre-season or are we referring to the Detroit trade physical?
