The thread showed up initially, but it is gone now...but then another Texans thread shows up in the Rockets forum.

They weren't moved. Just supposed to show "hot topics" or whatever in other forums. Something like that.

why are people really hating on Smith.

Every single NFL team, analyst, and scout believed the Texans were one of the most talented teams in the NFL at the start of the season.

On paper, the Texans had enough talent to make the Playoffs at least a year or two before they finally made it for the first time. That's a knock on coaching.

Tom Brady completely pwned our defense last year, was that because our defense was outmatched talent-wise? No, that was all due to coaching and lack of preparation. We had an entire game to see what Brady would do in the regular season, and upon the rematch, we didn't even make any adjustments or show him a different look?

Free agency blunders, bad contract extensions, poor draft performance, looming salary cap issues.

The coaches have made their mistakes, but Kubiak has not screwed up nearly as bad as Smith, IMO.

Our defense completely pwned most people the last two years with the exceptions being offenses like the Saints, Packers, and New England, whom regularly embarrass everyone. Those are matchup problems. The other defensive problems seem to have coincided directly with injuries. I did see Wade make adjustments in Foxboro part 2, but it wasn't enough after the offense pooped the bed for the 3rd straight time in the 3rd quarter.

Gary and Wade are, at worst, above average coaches on their respective sides of the ball. I can't say the same for Rick Smith relative to his peers.

I think Gary and Wade's fate lies with how the year finishes. If they can keep the team playing hard and squeeze out a respectable record, they're safe. For Kubiak, a lot of this rests on Case Keenum's shoulders. I cannot see McNair showing the door to the man who built his new franchise QB from the junk heap.

i dont believe nfl gms are responsible for free agents or deciding who gets extended. their job is mostly to manage the cap which he has been terrible at..

The Texans' cap is an embarrassment.

I'm almost 100% positive all GMs have a say in FA signings as well as extensions.

This just goes back to this point that was made:

As far as I know, the exact opposite of this statement is true.

difficult to manage a cap when you're not responsible for who you sign or extend

Where is Dan Reeves? Someone get Bob another adviser. Clean house, everyone must go. Yes, that means you Rick Smith. That means you Joe Marciano.

Of course they'll keep Smith and fire him in a year or two. As someone else said, a day later and dollar short.

So you want to re-hire the guy who hired Kubiak/Smith and retained Marciano?

    Reeves was a joke.

But sure, if Bob needs another adviser/consultant, go for it. NO, NOT DAN REEVES.

Good, I'm glad. It was ridiculous when this last game they were saying "win one for the coach!" The coach was having difficulty winning one for himself!
