You don't know this. If the tape helped them get just one turnover, that could have changed the whole game.

No doubt -- a three point game decided on a last second kick.

Goodell to meet with Sen. Specter about Spygate

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., plans to call NFL commissioner Roger Goodell promptly to discuss the Spygate controversy and suggested Sunday that Senate hearings could result from his investigation.

On ESPN's "Outside The Lines", Specter told host Bob Ley that he will call Goodell on Monday morning, just hours after the Patriots and Giants play in Super Bowl XLII.

"It could go to hearings," Specter said. "This is a matter to be considered by the [Senate Judiciary] Committee. I don't want to make any broad assertions or elevate it beyond what I have a factual basis for doing, We're going to follow the facts and if warranted, there could be hearings."

    Then why tape?

You know. . . Sammy Sosa, McGuire, etc all would have hit those Home Runs . . .with or without Steriods ;)

    MM, this is wrong.

Unless the Pats played the Rams earlier that season and have tape of that, the regular season tapings wouldbe useless.

This walkthrough would have been PLAY SPECIFIC for a game vs the Pats.

It would be EXTREMELY relevant and valuable.

This is so remarkably dumb. I'll give them looking into baseball as it had to do with players taking illegal drugs, but Congress is wasting time and money on cheating in football now? It's not like the NFL overlooked this or refused to deal with it the way baseball did steroids... Specter's just mad they destroyed the evidence afterwards.

It's going to gut uglier than the steroid thing...

    Why?

Because of all the public money (taxes) involved in the teams, and how revenues are directly affected by wins and losses.

You may be right...but I doubt seriously it would have made a difference. At all. You still have to execute...and it's not as if the Rams were shut down. I just have a very difficult time believing that this video is why the Rams lost...assuming this video even exists and this incident happened.

That it appears senators want to get involved with this is beyond stupid to me. I get having a hearing in MLB for steroids given the impact on kids playing sports, the fact that the drugs are used illegally, and even given the antitrust exemption for MLB....but getting involved in a fiasco regarding filming another team is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard considering the issues our country is facing right now.

Goodell to meet with Specter Wednesday to discuss Spygate

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Sen. Arlen Specter are to meet Wednesday to discuss the Spygate case involving the New England Patriots.

The meeting will take place at 3 p.m. ET in Specter's office in Washington, according to ESPN.com's Mike Fish. The Pennsylvania Republican has asked Goodell to explain his decision to destroy the tapes and notes from the case, which go back to 2002.

"I think they're [the NFL] going to want to not be uncooperative," Specter told Fish. "I expect they'll be cooperative. Once they come in, I've got a lot of questions for them. There are a lot of questions to be asked, and a lot of people we want to talk about."
