Right... the idea of soul mates involves some sort of destiny, divine planning, or having met in a previous life or world... depending on your particular religious take on it.

I don't think there is one "soul mate" for everyone... nice romantic idea, but does it really work that way? I think there are many people who can be your possible soul mates. Some people, through various twists of fate, get to have two or more in one lifetime (hopefully not at the same time :) ). It all has to do with compatibility and the kind of relationship you can form. This doesn't count out destiny or divine planning... but you're not going to find your soul mate just by looking into the eyes of someone you just met. Please. That is emotion and nothing more. Even if you think you know the person well, you might turn out not to even be on the same page. I'm sure we all know some "soul mates" who had an intense affair, maybe even destroyed past relationships to be together, and lasted all of about six months.

I've been with the same person for 8 1/2 years... the closest I'm likely to get to a soul mate... I don't think we can imagine not being together, and after all this time we've pretty much grown into one entity. Well, almost. I'm still my own person and, no matter how good that relationship may be, I'd be lying if I said that everything about him is exactly what I would have wanted in a perfect guy. Which is OK - there is no perfect guy. Even with a soul mate, you're eventually going to meet someone who has characteristics your "soul mate" doesn't have. And you'll wonder what might have been. Hopefully, if you've already committed to Soul Mate #1, you'll be smart enough not to mess things up. The modern "soul mate" idea is based somewhat on emotion, which is always more positive in the case of a relationship that isn't several years old. That doesn't mean the new relationship is really that deep.

Also, who says you aren't destined to be good friends with some members of the opposite sex? It doesn't have to lead to romantic involvement - does it?

And the "brain of a man into the bod of a fine looking woman" theory... also known as the Something About Mary theory... well, you see why that's such a fantasy for guys. Also you see why it's just a movie. Don't count on it to happen in real life...

Did I mention that my voice sounds a lot like Hawking's, except that I'm not so smart and I don't use a machine to talk?

So you're saying there's one person in ALL TIME that suits your soul?

So how is it that, despite such a remote possibility, so many people in this thread alone have found their soulmates?

I'm skeptical. I found someone who exactly matches the definition of a soulmate. But, just my luck, I found another.

So how could I have 2?

I can't pick between the 2. I don't prefer one over the other. Quite a pickle, ey?

too bad you can't pick both...

of course, who knows, some in this bbs might not have any sympathy for someone choosing between 2 when they don't have any. But the moral is - there is more than one soulmate out there. Most people may not be your soul mates, but there are always some who are. (comforting thought for those whose relationships have fallen apart... wait for the next soul mate to come into your life. You never know what you'll find out there.)

Wow 10 people a day. I see 10 new people everyday but im lucky if I actually meet 1 person a week. Like get her # etc...and I consider myself a pretty sociable guy. But I still say that you find can find your soulmate. I just wanna believe it.

I remember that episode. It was some girl with a jealous boyfriend. She was going to eat with a male friend and told her boyfriend. Her boyfriend said no, so she went to her dad's house instead. Her dad told her that

Yeah, that's the episode. Then right after that the girl goes possum/squirrel/dog hunting with her girlfriends and they get footage of her shooting and killing some small animal from the back of a Jeep. You have to love that central Appalachian culture (sorry Manny).

There is no such thing. Men know this. Women do too, but sometimes they seem to act as though they don't.
