I'll watch it, for the same reason I sometimes listen to Rush Limblogger... know thy enemy.

Oh, and scoreboard?? If you like how things are, groovy for you. We'll see in '06.

Does the SOTU speech even matter? It's only real purpose is for Congress to demonstrate their ability to extend the President's speech from 15 minutes to 90 minutes via strategically timed applause and boos.

    And so on....

    Bush = Enemy? That's rich.

You can oppose the Republicans ideals all you want, and I can respectfully disagree with most of it.

I disagreed with Clinton, but he certainly wasn't my "enemy".

Poor word-choice, or your maturity has been recently clouded by your anger.

    scoreboard?

See? This is what I don't get. Is it really all about keeping score with republicans? Is that more important than what is best for the country? Win at any cost? No matter how it affects Americans and our way of life?

    Uniter indeed

I too will watch only for the reason that I am an American and although I disagree with pretty much everything about this administration, I care about how our great country is ran and how Americans are getting along in America.

It's not about scorecards; it’s about what's best for America.

I think, rather playfully, it is. I've stated this before, and I'll repeat myself. I vote democrat on the local level, and republican on the State and National levels.

Win at any cost? Hyperbole, perhaps, mc? Or sour grapes?

    To quite honest, probably...a little.

But you can't deny that the administration has given us plenty of ammunition!

[edit] You know what? It sure is hard to be civil after listening to Bill Frist's comments just now on CNN.

don't take it literally.. I'm pretty sure no american think bush is their "enemy"..

what is being pointed out is the fact that some people listen to their opponents / foes to know what they are thinking..

"know they enemy" is commonly used to describe that.. just like "sleeping with the enemy"..

"know they foe" or "know thy opponent" or "sleeping with the foe" or "sleeping with the opponent" just doesn't sound as right or as popular..

It's an "expression" as old as the hills. Haven't you ever cracked a book??

    :)

I have a confession: I'm not sure when the last time was when I watched the State of the Union address. I think I may have watched it in 2003. But I'm not even certain of that. Perhaps a glance through the archives would show that I watched a bit of it last year, I don't know.

The truth is, I find it unwatchable.

Now, I read the transcript later. I'll often go back and watch key sections so I can get the flavor of a particular passage in the speech or of a debate it has spawned.

But the thing itself (watching the actual production in real time) and then the imbecile chatter afterwards -- I just can't deal. I just find it unbearable.

Are there others out there like me? I know that a great portion of the country never watches the thing and can't be bothered with politics in any case. But are there others out there who are genuine political junkies -- downright incurables -- and yet can't bear to watch this thing?

Never cracked a book. I've tried on several occasions, but they're really thick. I've read a few, though.

I really need to start working out.

deleted - Sheehan has been detained by Capitol police. Not arrested yet, simply detained after she tried to unfurl some kind of flag. What a clown.

Very classy of Bush to open with a tribute to Coretta Scott King.

Very honorable for Bush to mention the hard work of the troops.
