Hopefully she does not let any empathy towards the disabled color her judicial reasoning. That would be a disaster.

I almost feel sorry for Republicans right now. They are getting Jedi mind tricked again...after Obama manipulated them into making Limbaugh, Steele and Cheney the "new faces" of the GOP, he's now got them in the position of losing more Hispanic voters by their ridiculous approach in opposing Sotomayor. Republicans crying racist? Classic.

First point: Nothing Barry says is from Barry -- it's all a part of his meticulously cultivated image, which is the product of his handlers (Axelrod, Plouffe, Rahmbo, etc).

Second: From a Republican's standpoint, Limbaugh, Steele, and Cheney are all PERFECT foils for Obama currently -- because none of them have futures in the Republican Party's leadership. Obama is still in his honeymoon period. His supporters still love him and a majority of Americans (dumb as they may be) support him. Anyone running opposition to him at the moment is politically damaged. The Republicans are still able to score points on him during this short-term phase, with these bit characters, while not sacrificing their future leaders' political capital. It's a perfect setup, that Obama has fallen face first into. It also takes Obama down a few pegs to engage these figures, given their low popularity among centrist voters. There will come a time when Obama no longer has the support of a majority of Americans, and it will be at that time when it will make sense for the Republican Party's future leaders (Jindal, Cantor, Huntsman, etc) to step forth and pummel him. Until then, he can take his whippings from our second team.

With any luck Republicans will maintain this level of self-delusion through the midterms and all they way to 2012.

The same principle holds true for going after Sotomayor in the early phase (i.e. now) -- Newt Gingrich stepped forward today with a scathing criticism. Again, Newt has zero future in the Republican Party's leadership. He's the perfect guy to trot out there to say the tough things and take the brunt of the blow....soften up the opposition for when things matter most.

When the face of your party are Limbaugh, Steele and Cheney...with Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin aiming for 2012 all I can say is God help you. Obama already pealed off Spector and Gov. Huntsman from Utah as the wackos take over the party. Squeezing out moderates is political suicide. In the short term you're heading to another Alf Landon style beatdown. Looking to the future, how would needlessly alienating Hispanic voters be a wise strategy considering they are the fasting growing voting block? The GOP is a regional party right now. They could go the way of the Whigs if they keep being so tone deaf.

Yeah, with Newt going around calling people racist I can see where he's a perfect spokesman for the republican party.

Cheney Urges Obama to Name Bitter Psycho to Bench

Former Vice President Dick Cheney weighed in today on President Obama's impending choice to replace Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the President to name a bitter psycho to the bench.

Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press," Mr. Cheney said that the President's choice to replace Justice Souter "should send a strong message to bitter psychos across the country that they will have a voice" on the nation's highest court.

Mr. Cheney's comments were widely interpreted as a sign that he himself was angling for a position on the Supreme Court, a charge he flatly denied.

"I have no designs on the Supreme Court," Mr. Cheney said. "There are many other embittered psychotics out there who could do an excellent job."

Mr. Cheney said that his own time was better spent "driving down the Republican Party's approval rating to zero."

Nice post T_J, can you give me a quick run down on these future titans of the GOP who are currently cowering in the shadows?

Paraphrasing an article I read, the Repubs just can't help themselves. A self confident Latina woman, who is smarter than them just drives them bananas.
They just have to attack her. If they don't attack they lose the bubba vote in the Confederacy and Appalachia, and it they lose that there isn't much left.

I'm not talking about opposing Sotomayer on philosophical grounds, even if it doesn't hold water. I'm talking about trotting out the line that she's a racist. That is needlessly alienating a huge voting block. One, she's going to be confirmed anyway and you're wasting big ammunition for a fight that you can't win. Two, the GOP is falling apart. It's not like there's going to be more elderly white people in 20 years. There will be more Hispanic voters. If this is confusing to you, good luck with life.

    Yeah....I gotta agree.

The hypocrisy of politicians and left and right crazies is just staggering.

i'm not confused, it's all quite clear. it's ok to say racists things (i'm not calling her a racist) if you're non-white, and it's ok to oppose a non-white republican on grounds that would make the left scream bloody murder were they applied in reverse.

dr. king must be rolling over in his grave.
