The only difference between Yao and McGrady is a PG. McGrady can take the role of distributing the ball but not Yao, Therefore, it is easily for McGrady to help the team win game in the fourth than Yao. I know..... this had been said before. The turn around game for Rockets is obviously the Spurs game where the roleplayers found their confidences and step up.
I think what matters is... what your potential job interviewer thinks... if he is looking at two prospective job applications... one from Duke and one from Rice... all things being equal... which person would he choose... coming from a Canadian living in the Philippines trading US stocks.... Duke is ivy league basketball school I see on a Chinese broadcasted tv station on the weekends... lets not forget China and India... will be the new economic powers in the future... might as well gear your business education towards that fact...
while we at is, according US news Duke B-school ranks 11 in the nation, average starting pay for new a grad is 100k. Rice ranks 44 and averge starting pay is 92k.
why waste so much money applying to harvard stanford and mit when a rejection letter is what u get in return... o yeah business at berk's HAAS school of business is ranked pretty high i think its 6th last yr. But I heard its pretty competitive since so many ppl are applying to berk because of its cheaper public eduction and prestige. Right now Im in berk's college of engineering and it be fun if i can double in haas
Doing an MBA? Fuqua, all the way. Of course, it will suck being in NC when Mac and Yao lead us to a championship but you will have to fly back to Clutch City for the playoffs. But, thread-hijacking aside, you are right. We have to superstars, who, surprisingly are adept at single-handedly carrying the team to a win on their own without the other guy. This is a new phenomenon, and as happy as I am, I hope they are able to combine their awesomeness when Yao comes back.
Also let's not forget that when the two were playing together earlier in the season, we kept pace with the spurs and mavs, even with T-Mac not shooting well!
Clearly, you have no idea what you're talking about. Have you ever heard of the Baker Institute? Rice is world renowned...trust me, I would know. Depending on the field, I would recommend one school or the other. Duke has a terrific business program, I am not putting it down. However, DeAleck would be well-advised to give Rice a second look, given its strategic advantage over Duke, i.e. the fact that it's located in Houston, an international business hub and home to the second highest number of Fortune 500 companies in the entire country, many of whom decide to send their executives-in-training to either UH or Rice. He's probably more likely to rub elbows with business executives/hopefuls and make more useful connections here in Houston than in North Carolina. Heck, even UH has a great, top-notch MBA program that's consistently ranked amongst the best in the nation in terms of its track-record (from their website: Our M.B.A. program ranked 12th in the nation and 5th among public universities in producing CEOs of S&P 500 companies, according to Bloomberg Markets, September 2004, tying with Dartmouth and Michigan). UT's business school would be another great option. So again, I am not knocking Duke at all, it's a great school and he's lucky to have a chance to get an education there. All I am trying to do is point out that you don't have to get out of Houston -- or Texas -- to get a great education.
Absolutely. We only have about an 8 man rotation, sometimes only 7. Getting on for a couple of minutes (Novak, Lucas, Span) doesnt count. There are other teams that go 9-10 deep.
Hey Mr God I thought your nickname was just a moniker. I also trade stocks. Let me know if you want to exchange some ideas. ledia84k@yahoo.com
Fortune 500 companies, huh? You mean like Enron? You make great points tiger. I am graduating from University Of Central Florida (about 7 notches below Duke, lol) in Finance. I have heard about the renowned Baker institute. I have done a little bit of research and Rice is definitely a top program. In general though, no education by itself can prepare you for a successful career. I don't like many academics and professors for the simple fact that they have never had real success in the real world. I would much rather read a book from George Soros or Warren Buffet. Business is not an exact science, it's more of an art.
Methinks this thread needs to be partially severed and moved into the Hangout under the title 'Moving to........Duke or Rice?'
take a coin ... rice is heads, tails is duke.... flip it in the air and while it's coming down you'll realize in your mind you are starting to root for one side to come up... that's the school you go to.
That would work too! Macfan, I agree with you for the most part. Business isn't really an 'academic' field like -- say -- history or political science. You definitely don't need to go to school to become a successful businessman, a real-world experience would probably serve you better in the long run. In most other fields (hard sciences, math, social sciences, etc) it doesn't work that way. However, in most companies/corporations you just can't get 'all the way to the top' without an advanced degree (MBA, MPA, MPH, etc.), and it's a requirement for many higher up positions. Generally speaking, you don't just go for an MBA because you want one, you get it because you want a better job in your company/industry or because your company decided to make that investment in you.
This is why we lose the close games to the better teams at the end of games. Our starters are out of gas.... JVG needs to play some other guys a few minutes more to get his regulars a break. Tmac's back and Yao's legs need a rest during the game......Got to manage those minutes. DD
