Rice may not be bad in the eyes of Texans. But the name recognition of Rice is nowhere close to Duke's both nationally and internationally. I suppose in the world of Bussiness you've got to deal with some foreign people sometime in your career. IMO, A degree from Duke beats one from Rice hands down.
U gotta think about life after college. After u graduate from Duke thats gonna be your college team to cheer for. They never have a losing season and are always in march madness. With Rice, just making NIT is a great season for them. This is an off year for Duke and they are still ranked #5, lower now that they just lost to VT. Go to DUKE! Year in and year out u will be watching your team on national tv and winning. The degree itself will be nice too, I might be calling u boss one day with just my Sam Houston degree. BTW, Sam could beat Rice this year if they played, the decision from a fans perspective is not hard one! Just forget that football even exist, if your a Texans fan u should be good at that anyway.
Er.. Rice is known internationally. Duke may be better known, but I wouldn't say it's for its education.. more like it's known because of its sports. Duke is ranked higher for non-purely educational reasons. Right now it's ranked #8 and Rice is ranked #17. But these rankings are based on factors that don't necessarily equate to a better education. Just as an example, my school, Carnegie Mellon, is ranked #21. But if you ask anyone in academics or industry, they'll point to Carnegie Mellon over Duke and Rice as a place of high learning.
You've got to be kidding me. If you're talking about ESPN non-educational rankings, I don't think Rice can be as high as #17.
congrats man.....my parents are all over my butt to get into one of those schools. im a freshman at clements(asians galore) and my god theyre so annyoing ahaha.
This is where he got it from. A very respectable list. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1natudoc_brief.php
If you're going for business and those are your two choices it should be Duke hands down, a no-brainer. Rice would be the better option in the sciences. Now you should have applied to Harvard, Stanford, Penn, MIT and Northwestern. Those are the top 5 business schools. There are about two publics in the top 10 and they are the UC schools: Berkeley and LA, with Michigan just outside.
I don't know if I'm in the right thread, but on the original topic. I feel that this is the best put together team we've had in a long time, probably even since the championship days. I'm not saying they're as good as that team, but this is the first time in a long time we've had the pieces in the role player. Deke brings defense, Juwon can handle scoring, Head is a clutch three shooter and Shane Battier has been a godsend to this team. If T-Mac is truly done with the back problems and really back, we'll be really good. If Yao comes back and gets back into how he played before he left.............wow. I know there are good teams out there, but don't underestimate us. If we're firing on all cylnders, we could go all the way. Stranger things have happened.
The school is important only if you go to undergraduate, in that case, I won't go to either of them. A degree from Harvad or MIT will get you a long way than any of those schools. But for graduate school, your advisor's name/influence is more important than the school, or department name, since he/she will be your reference for your lifetime.
I am planning to apply to both. In fact, I am writing essay for Michigan now. It's due tomorrow. I'm on the CF.net break. UT is still on my mind. It doesn't have a deadline, but I'm pretty tired... exhausted in fact after all my applications. Plus, I already got offers. So, I'll see. BTW, guys, thanks for the suggestions. I have very high respect for both Duke and Rice. Wherever I go, I feel blessed.
Agree. I think the therapy Tmac went through did make a different. He looks different now then he did before he hurt his back again. It's apparent that he wasn't fully healthy back then, but is now.
Come to Duke man, we need more Rocket Fans here. I've hijacked other people in my dorm's computers because they streamed sopcast better but they just don't seem to understand the importance of the Rockets
I live in Houston now for 20+ years but grew up in NC so I love Duke although I graduated from UofH. You could do far worse than either institution...follow your heart and you'll make the right decision. Mac is having a great run and I think he finally feels in sync and is willing to force the action. He can carry us during the reg season but you need the big fella as well. I think they will both take whatever the defense gives them when they both are in during the last two months of the season leading to the playoffs. The second season is more half court so Yao will be the man but Mac has to know that he can get his any time he wants!
