Sorry to say but I could see this coming a mile away! Unlike the new logo it is apparent that the Rockets organization is wanting the uniforms to be secret until they unveil them (versus floating the logo out into the public slowly). I can respect that. It is their uniforms and they should be allowed to premiere them the way they want to. BUT, with that said, the fans are chomping at the bit to see them so I can see why people loved to see that "glimpse" of the unis. I personally like how it unfolded because now I have a "sneak peak" at it and am EXCITED about it. And at the same time I am still looking forward to the "official" unveiling. It is like my thirst has been partially quenched with that sneak peak viewing. But alas, the photos are gone. Correct me if I am wrong but at least with the photos showing up this proves that the Rockets premiering of the jerseys is just THEIR timing and not the timing of the manufacturering. I think we were led to believe that the jerseys were still being made and they would not be ready until September. Obviously they are made and they are just waiting (on their own time table) until September to unveil them.
It may sound strange, considering how huge the site has become... and that it's without question the top sports site in the States (hell, anywhere), but sometimes it's in our best interest that Clutch has to stay a bit under the radar on some things. If that's what's happening here, we should all chill out and thank our lucky stars for Clutch. Thanks, Clutch. You gotta do what you gotta do. And we appreciate it!
Thanks for the heads up. I went to the NBA Taiwan website and saw the picture. If that is it, not much to see, really. It's only shown from the site, so I am not sure I understand why anybody from the Rockets/NBA would get worked up about it. But if they make Clutch take it off, let's just be patient .
Tim's the Vice President of the Rockets Marketing. He posts here under the alias "Tim." As an aside, I work in Marketing Strategy for a large corporation. I know the Vice President. And there's no way in hell she would be cool enough to chat with fans/customers on a regular basis. Tim's the bomb. If he called in a favor, so be it.
I understand what you mean about respecting the fact Clutch is deleting all links, but it is a futile job that someone is trying to make him do. fact remains, it *was* and *is* still posted at nba.com. If this is a favor to Tim, well, Tim gets a lot of favors from this site...more than the other way around. rockets.com gets linked to over and over again from this site. this site drives a lot of traffic to Tim's site....that makes them money. They can't say link to our nba.com team site in one case (when it is their benefit), but say don't allow that public nba.com link in another case. Well, they can, but it's just cheap. I'd be disappointed in Tim if he did that. Why? because this won't stop another site from posting it. Look around at what is happening. the shut down has caused the public to react and make sure other news sites have it. In the end, Clutch's site will be the only one not posting it. Building brownie points are one thing when it acutally helps, but they are not going to achieve their ultimate goals of hiding the picture. So, Clutch is blocking something that can't be blocked. which is a silly request to make of him, and it is a bad precedent to allow.
Since I don't know the situation really, my comments mean absolutely nothing.... but I still would like to give a word of advice to the execs at the NBA. Embrace the inevitable! There is NO WAY to stop the internet, so you might as well join it. Learn to play the cat and mouse game that half of your fans spend way to much time doing. No point in threatening anyone. Just take the picture down if it was an accident, and you get some free publicity out of it. You also get lots of web traffic from people trying to find out more info.
i don't think it does any good to take it down, once someone puts the picture on their computer it's pointless.
Yep, one thing's getting lost in the shuffle: the unis are terrific. After the clown suits it's just what the doctor ordered. Man, I'm imaging a fast-break with the Rockets wearing their new threads. And it's giving me chills. And then I can see Gundy pumping his fist and yelling for Defense. Yao, cloaked in brilliant Rocket Red, goes up to block Shaq's layup. The crowd roars . . . [sigh. I'll get back to work.]
FYI, wanted to add something else to my initial post. Tim, from what I can see from that photo, the uniforms look good! Good work! If we have to wait until September to see the uniforms then so be it. They are your uniforms and it is your time table..but I think we all would rather seen them sooner than later.
Here's the story... In return for blocking the picture here, and since CC.net broke the story again, the Rockets are hastily making arangements to go ahead and formally introduce the new uniforms in conjunction with CC.net. Clutch and sway are on their way to the Rockets' offices right now to be fitted with the new gear to be presented to the media later this afternoon. Much like Clyde debuted the pajamas, Clutch and sway will be the models this time.
ESPN confirmed they now have the pic ABC News 13 also confirmed they have the pic oh and Channel 2 has fowarded the picture to the producers, whatever that means? as a few others have said, from what i've seen the new uniforms look pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing the home white
OK, this is kind of off-topic, but it has to do with the jerseys. Are you guys DEBUTING the jerseys in September or is that when they will be available to the masses? I know the Nugs debuted the jerseys the day after the draft, but the only thing that's available now (and it just came out within a week ago) is the crappy reebok replicas. The Nike Swingman's and authentics won't be out until September. Just a thought. Your jerseys might be closer than you think.
