i'm glad you are able to view baseball with innocent eyes. pro sports have been so twisted by $ + media that it's hard for me to watch without cynicism. the ridiculousness of the yankee empire is proof that baseball's not a sport with a level playing field. i have passion for houston teams (especially when they are playing well) but have a hard time enjoying other team's games until the playoffs. the lone exception would be the brooklyn cyclones, the mets A team. they play in coney island and are composed of a bunch of kids without much chance to make the bigs. there are lots of errors and inferior play but i love it. the only thing better is watching my sons play little league, nothing in sports is greater than that.
The Astros are currently ranked 9th out of 16 NL teams in hits (same as last year). Lots of teams have a #1 starting pitcher with an ERA of 4.68. Not many teams have a Lance - but then again, the vast majority have a better overall offense than the Astros.
The Nationals have 1 more hit than the Astros. And they have Zimmerman, Dukes, and Dunn. No one as good as Lance, but two of those are young players with a bright future. More Pence-like than Lance-like, I guess.
I'm with you 100% on the little league stuff. I'm coaching this season, and I don't like that because I can't just sit back and watch my kid play as a fan. Long story...but the Astros are just a part of me. I love going to games with the family. And have a deep connection with them through my grandparents who are now deceased. Hard to explain, really.
i went to a mets game with one of my sons last year and it cost me over $300. the money flying out of my wallet wouldn't have been so bad if it also hadn't made me feel so dirty.
that's funny. yeah, i don't pay $300 to go to baseball games unless it's something really special or unique. i did pay about $275 for a birthday party at the baseball stadium for him during the offseason which was awesome. cake up in a suite...tour of the stadium...on the field...in the dugouts and bullpens....that was fun.
...and they were nosebleed seats LOL i can't imagine what it would cost to do a b-day party in a suite at either of the new parks up here. many a grand i suppose.
wow! astros buddies is a great deal here. both my boys are members. for $15 they get some souvenir crap...and a $60 credit each for tickets!!! that and my older boy gets $40 credits for perfect attendance during each nine week period in the second semester.
