I have personally witnessed people piss their life away by being obsessed with their career.

Dude, you need to look at facts and try to distinguish them from fiction. In every study done on the subject since the late 1800s, they have found that mar1juana is less toxic, less dangerous, and less addictive than alcohol.

There is already a breathalyzer for mar1juana (they use it in Holland) and I would argue that the same DUI laws that apply to alcohol should apply to marijauna. mar1juana is not more potent in it's effects, particularly when you actually look at the effects on user's motor controls and ability to drive (which you seem concerned about). Marijauna users tend to be far more paranoid when going about tasks like driving and as such, score much more highly on driving trails than even people with two beers in them.

    "In all things, moderation."

If you like seeing religious arguments, I recommend Jacob Sullum's "Saying Yes" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_1/102-5329428-4405765?v=glance&s=books). He goes into a very good discussion of religious tolerances and views on drug use and specifically deals with the "temperence" movement that abandoned the Biblical definition (moderation) infavor of an abstinance-only view. This, of course, led to prohibition of alcohol and drugs. One element of that arcane, ineffective policy has been retired, it is far past time to pitch out the remnants of an archaic policy whose time has come.

But honestly, what is the difference between coming home and having a couple of beers (or more), a martini or two, a couple of glasses of wine, or a joint? All of them are going to relax you, if it is in the privacy of your home, you won't negatively impact society, and all of them have virtually the same psychotropic effect.

There is room for moderation in all things, not just alcohol.

I have never attempted to portray it as "harmless." There are quite obviously some harms, but I could easily make the case that it is not as harmful as either tobacco or alcohol. In fact, you would be hard pressed to show ANY evidence that mar1juana is more harmful than either of the two we have legal now.

No kidding. Or obsessed with a lover, or obsessed by alcohol, or obsessed by gambling. Obsession in general will cause people to "piss their life away," it doesn't matter what the particular obsession is.
