Interesting theory from another message board: "Rewatch the end. Look at the sunset and how it does a brief flash. It looks like the lighthouse from his dream. Tony "gets it", because the symbolism in the dream now makes sense to him. My guess: Tony went to Vegas because he wanted to escape all the death and misery of his existence. He went to Vegas, let go of all his inhibitions and worries, and was able to just enjoy himself. The lighthouse, to him, symbolizes a way out...an exit from the ****. Don't be surprised if Tony decides all the stuff he is dealing with just isn't worth it anymore and tries to leave the business/escape for good within the last 3 episodes."
Interesting.... Or it could simply be it's the drug induced "revelation" that everyone has when they do hallucinogens. You've finally figured everything out, everything suddenly makes sense. But you can never remember it once you've slept off the drugs. Or so I'm told
Actually I thought when he stared at the light (reminiscent of the scenes when he was in the coma) right after he puked, that it was hinting at this all being a dream or coma. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he really was Kevin Finnerty in a coma or that everything that happeend after he got shot by Junior was simply a dream culminating in him being declared brain dead on the last episode.
You're getting your 80's night-time soaps mixed up... it was Dallas that wasted the entire season on a dream sequence. Yet another reason why Dallas sucks.
Opps. You're right. My bad. I didn't actually watch any of those shows, just know them by reputation. Also, can I point out that the scene with Paulie's mother's funeral was freaking hilarious. Two weeks in a row, Paulie's been the comic highlight. Who am I kidding, it's probably been 6 years in a row Paulie's held that title.
I watched the episode again last night, and I have a thought about the "I Get It" scene at the end..... What if "I Get It" means "I gotta kill off all my enemies to solidify my position before they squeal or kill me"? Could it mean Tony trying to whack Phil Leotardo, Bobby B., and perhaps Paulie before the series is over? Remember that when Tony was trippin, and was winning at the roulette table, he said "he's dead" (meaning Christopher) and smiled..... And I still think AJ is going to die before the series is over....
I was watching one of the reruns on A&E last night. The scene where Paulie sniffs Ade's panties was hilarious!
I just watched this episode last night. What a great episode. Tony putting Chrissy out of his missery and wiping out one of this biggest threats with a pinch of the fingers was surprising but excellent.
who was the girl in vegas? the actress's name, and her character. this was the first time we've ever seen her correct? i loved the awkwardness between carm and the real estate lady and chris's funeral. edit: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1083404/ Sarah Shahi is this her?
You know, for a minute there I actually thought that the girl was played by Eva Longaria since i am unable to tell skinny brunette girls apart from one another. My wife did recognize her from one of her fave shows "the L Word".
Who cares, she's f'n hot... I too thought the "I get it" was him going to stop putting up with sh*t and get Phil... Overall a decent ep and I still can't believe Chrissy is gone...Now that I think back, it was coming, but still a shock...One by one, people will be going...
Yes, that's her, Sarah Shahi. But she looks even better than that pic. Born in Euless TX?? Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Shahi
I think one of the points of The Sopranos is that mobsters are soulless opportunist. I don't think there was just one specific reason that Tony killed Christopher, he was mad about his portrayal in the movie, it was so close to the truth (well with zombies) that it was a rat out, they were actually communicating in car till Christopher tuned him out by cranking up 'Comfortably Numb', he saw Chris' addiction as weakness, he saw that Chris was likely to screw up his own little girls life..polluting the one thing he loved like Tony did with AJ and Tony's father did with him and he genuinely couldn't stand to see Christopher in pain (he has a history of euthanasia you know). For mobsters, who hurt so many people, live without principals, who contribute nothing, who live a lie in a constant state of stress, death is better than life. Life is cheap to them because their own lives are worthless. I think what Tony "gets" is that he has made a deal with the devil (hence the shot of the devil on the slot machine right before he goes on his winning streak). His years of trying to resolve his inner conflict with Melfi never gave him any solace; he gets that there is no salvation for him... so he will embrace evil. I would guess that he is about to go apocalyptic and bring down his whole world right on top of his head; kill them all till someone kills him; suicide by mass murder. It will start with Phil Leotardo and he will sacrifice his soldiers. Meadow, the only thing with any real worth that he has been a part of, is probably the only person safe from his wrath. (when I used to trip, my revelation was the moment you are living right now is the only thing that matters...but that's probably another thread.)
Or he could get that "life is love" and drop out to follow Polyphonic Spree from town to town in a van.
