First you need to have the game "Wipeout Pure". It has a browser built into it for future game downloads. Follow these instructions to set it up. It only took a few minutes to do: http://www.pspcrazy.com/pspwipeoutbrowsertutorial.htm The game has a cellphone-like interface that lets you use the d-pad and x button to type. D-pad also lets you jump from hotlink to hotlink on whatever page you are looking at. It's really not a perfect browser because it wasn't intended to be , but you can get around. I didn't get as far as posting yet, I was just goofing off while watching the game last night. I plan to try posting from it this weekend. Once you get it online, you can IRC as well: http://www.pspcrazy.com/irconpsp.htm
Even when it is a great deal, it is too much for me. I'd love to have a 1 GB card, but I still don't want to be paying that kind of money for one, even though I know it is a great deal. I've seen $140-$160 price tags for these cards, and this really beats those prices. I did see a site that listed them for like $65, but those quickly went to "backorder" and now they are being listed for $165, or something like that IIRC. Still hoping for some great prices by end of year... As for the PSP sales, sounds like they did OK. Sony said over 500K were sold in the first two days, and an additional 100K were sold that week. Sounds like sales went down and then went up again from some personal experiences around the US. I heard that the whole equal distribution thing really hurt sales in a way since you may not find a single PSP in LA, but a small store in Georgia may have only sold 3 of its 25 PSP's this whole time. The sales of games is what I want to know about. Ridge Racer seems to be the favorite of most and is often hard to find; Untold Legends is the best selling games at EB Games and Gamestop; Lumines, Metal Gear Acid, and Wipeout Pure are also solid titles that probably got decent sales. Heard someone say that this is the opposite of the PS2 launch, where the PS2 sold out everywhere, but there where millions of copies of FantaVision and other crappy games everywhere. There was some PSP info that came out of a chat with someone from Sony that was pretty interesting. I'm too lazy to quote all the good things and analyze everything, but here's a rundown (that I semi-copied from somewhere else): 1) Hotspot support this summer (this is for the kind you login on, or something like that) 2) Wipeout Pure's DL content coming within 1-2 months 3) Playing your own music in-game confirmed. 4) ATV Offroad Fury has DL content 5) Playable demos confirmed 6) ATRAC3 support fixed soon 7) Freeware games possible it seems This quote was pretty interesting:
If anyone here has MLB could you post a quick review? im thinking of getting it but im not sure if i should hold out a couple more weeks for MVP 2005.
Guys... I hate to break up this PSP lovefest , but does anyone know if Microsoft intends to soon come out with its own "PSP fighter"? The reason I ask is that I am SURE Microsoft somewhere down the road will come out with its own portable gaming system, except this time the system will be Windows-based and thus will offer more functions and will be more user-friendly as far as wireless networking/gaming, music playing, and playing movies is concerned. If Microsoft comes out with its own unit, I will definitely wait for that one, I am not as interested in the PSP since it doesn't seem to be internet-friendly yet. I hope they have one out by the holiday season later this year...
Doubt it, and certainly not anytime soon with the Xbox 360 coming up this fall. Plus, just because Microsoft will be making it doesn't mean it will be better. I could see a Microsoft version of the PSP being similar to the Gizmondo with a more decent gaming library and maybe not the GPS in order to drive the price down a little bit. They'd either be bleeding money on it like the Xbox or putting up a really inferior product, IMO. I guess the OS and stuff could be better, although with the occasional blue screen and stuff. Of course, this is speaking in relative terms to when the PSP launched. If Microsoft planned to launch a handheld in late 06 or something, then they could possibly put together a better package, but only because of the time difference. By that time, PSP2 would be in development and would be better than what Microsoft has to offer...blah..blah...blah. I would like to see what Microsoft would do for movie support, music support, etc.
I checked out the PSP when DCSkilz came by Live and i liked it...looked like a lot of fun. The one thing that i really would like to see on it like all of you have talked about is the ability to get on the net using Wifi around town or places you go to...that would really boost my opinion on it. I mean after a while games get boring and if you are able to just pop up and use the web it will be a lot more useful and they might target a bigger market that way too..
BLASHPHEMY!!! J/K. Yeah, I get what you mean and that would be a great feature for the PSP. For people in big cities, like Houston, it shouldn't be too hard to implement; as long as you are either in a hotspot or close to your (or someone else's) wireless network, you could get on at just about any time. I'm more or less screwed the longer I stay in my hometown though; thank goodness I'll be off to college later in the year, where I should easily be able to find either hotspots or get broadband.
yeah exactly..the whole point is they want people to be on it as much as they can. If it's only good for games and mp3's and stuff now then i don't see people carrying it everywhere with them because of the size and all... throw in capability to browse the web anytime and then you got a great product..once again maybe that's jus tme.
Haha, I'll have to stop by one of these days and show you the web browser built in to Wipeout Pure. It's pretty awesome. I was browsing CF.net, gaming-age, as well as a few other sites. I even believe I posted to my journal with it...or I was going to but I had to go. Anyway, it's pretty bad ass. If you only get one game, get Lumines. It owns everything ever.
