so you guys are saying i can walk up to any blue box, and buy a ps3 off the shelf? I don't see any at best buy. i don't see any at wal-mart.
Their market is a little weird, especially when it comes to used (or "used") systems, which is what we have here. I'd like to look into this, although I don't know of any way to find out more info. BTW, just realized that the final price wasn't mentioned at gamedrift.com. For those that don't know, this special deal puts the 20GB PS3 at ~$330. If the Japanese don't want one, I'd gladly take one for that price.
I know...rofl. Only problem is we don't have the same games?? I picked up FNR3 yesterday. I have no idea how to play the game, I just keep rotating the stick round and round and so far I've won every match except one. I don't really see why people complain about the background. It definately looks better than 2d 16 bit cardboard cut outs or whatever people are claiming. The backgrounds look fine to me.
Didn't know where else to put this, but thought this was interesting. Oblivion Developer: Blu-Ray is SlowerRelated: The latest shot in the HD-DVD / Blu-Ray battle has been fired, this time coming from Oblivion developer Bethesda Software. According to the developers of the game, the Blu-Ray drive data rates are slower than those on, for instance, the Xbox-360’s DVD drive. Says Todd Howard at Bethesda: “Drive speed matters more to me [than capacity], and Blu-ray is slower.” What does this mean? Well, in general, longer load times and more cacheing to the harddrive. In fact, in order to get Oblivion to load on the PS3 as fast as it does on the Xbox-360, Bethesda duplicated key data from the game, storing it on multiple places in the disc to lower access times. There’s no word on how much of the code was duplicated, but it still seems to go against Sony’s message that developers need 50GB of storage space. It sounds like, if the drive were faster, the HD-DVD standard of ~30GB / disc could be adequate. http://www.playfeed.com/index.php/playfeed/article/oblivion-developer-blu-ray-is-slower-01201337/
Bethesda should let (or force?) people to install part/most/all of the game on the HDD...it is small enough (4GB-5GB IIRC) and shouldn't take long. That would be way, way, way faster than any optical drive (even with the "slow" HDDs in these consoles). It isn't like they don't have any experience with that either... Not sure why they labeled this a HD DVD vs Blu-ray battle though.
yeah i read that too, i thought it was really interesting that developers are speaking out against blue-ray. oblivion had to be copied onto the disc several times to make the loading decent. which by the way is pretty crafty on the developers part, i wouldnt have thought of that. all that space, and the disc drive isnt fast enough. pretty interesting. on that note, i see ps3's everywhere!! i cant find a wii for the life of me. i wanted to get one for our family room, i even went to best buy this past sunday at 9am thinking id be an hour early. i was wrong, people had been camped out since 7am. 20 systems were gone.
I'm guessing Bethesda is one of only a few developers that is in this situation. For most developers, Blu-ray should allow for loading times somewhat on par with a 12x DVD drive (assuming the devs are somewhat competent). Even if Sony had a 16x Blu-ray drive, I'd still rather have Bethesda allow gamers to install the game on the HDD (still way faster if I'm not mistaken).
I am not so sure....they are getting killed in both hand held and console right now. And publishers are slow to fully committ to a next gen platform..they will do a few of their better known titles but won't do a lot of titles until they see a clear winner. Before the Wii came out publishers were hesitant to do wii deals...now they are all scrambling to find developers to do wii games. Fricken idiots in marketing ! DD
I have Resistance. FPS are not my forte but I enjoy it. In Houston I never saw any. But when I got back to College Station for school I saw 2 at walmart and about 15 at Best Buy. Small town with poor kids though...
I saw 10 at the best buy near the galleria a couple of weeks ago. Make sure you ask them because they were kind of hidden.
I don't play on buying a ps3 right now. car brakes/tune up, or ps3/wii. i'll take the ferrari instead.
Hopefully 3rd party sales will be much improved on the Wii compared to the DS and other Nintendo systems. There is like a 10M system gap between the DS and the PSP in Japan, but the gap in 3rd party sales isn't as big as you'd think. Earyl Wii/PS3 game sales seem to indicate no change in this situation, but I'm sure that would change if 3rd parties put out better quality games on the system. EA and Ubisoft seem to be on the right track (although both need to work on fixing some things). Of course, the Wii could probably create such a gap in sales that this wouldn't matter much anyway (crappy sales on the Wii could still be much better than good sales on the PS3/360...not to mention more profitable due to cheaper development costs).
seriously? ive been to 2-3 targets (the 2 on highway 6 in sugarland and the meyerland location) in the past 2 weeks and they ALL had them, PLENTY in stock, the Walmart on Bissonnet and the Beltway, have been there a few times, and saw like 5 of them last Friday. Hell, even Fry's is selling them WITHOUT buying the bundle.
I still don't think the Wii will interfere with 360 and PS3 sales targets. 80 million+ PS3s sounds farfetched right now, but once the pretty looking games come in for both Xbox and PS3, people will be buying those games with their Wii games. As for the price drop hitting stateside, I'm still waiting for that 150 dollar PSP.
are you in Houston? they have some at CompUSA for $150, do a search for your local CompUSA, and check their closeouts, the one on Westhimer and Kirkwood? had them for $149, of course that was last week EDIT: found it, according their site, again, who knows the accuracy of the stock, they have 2 at $149.98 http://www.compusa.com/specials/storeblowoutsale/blowout151.htm
I have the infamous $40 off $199 (expires March 31st 07) coupon from Circuit City before they pulled it offline. If you (or anyone else) want to use it for the psp or anything else for that matter I can email it to you. Just drop your email address in this thread if you want it.
