lol alright you got me on that one. It wouldn't be the first time that the marketing department got its signals crossed with the rest of the company.

i kinda thought that retailer demand = consumer demand since I'm assumming that the retailers would want the item thats more popular to be in their stores. If the 20GB was as popular, I'm sure retalers would demand it.

I personally wouldn't say that. PS3 runs off Blu-Ray, while 360 runs DVD-based games. Buying a separate HD-DVD movie drive as an accessory isn't an equivalent selling point to having a console that plays high-definition movies out of the box. Paying top dollar for a PS3 to play it on a non-high definition TV seems inane. 360 less so (though still a little silly, granted).
My only gripe with my PSP is that it's not very friendly in helping me do what I want. A usb-keyboard would make browsing WORLDS better. Letting me record videos onto something other than a tiny 1 GB flash card or a clumsy and ridiculously overpriced external harddrive. I'd love it so much more if it ran off of mini-DVDs rather than that f'ing UMD.

Ugh please don't remind me about the amount of money I had to spend to buy a 1GB Memory stick a while ago. I coulda bought a 1GB SD card for like 15 bux. grrr.

the nub is probably the worst thing for the PSP, it actually hurt my thumb playing that thing.

I don't know (or remember) how many systems the UK is getting, but I'm guessing retailers expect the PS3 to sell out (like the PS3 did here in the first 2 months). IOW, if they're going to sell out anyway, might as well sell out of the higher priced PS3.

I don't know...it seems like a lot of 360 owners have stated how necessary a HDTV is to really enjoy playing the 360 and its games. I can't remember the exact results, but I remember a study by MS that showed most Xbox 360 owners either owning a HDTV or planning on buying one in the near-future.

The PS3 probably "needs" a HDTV more so than the 360, but I think both systems pretty much require one if you're going to pay $400+ for it.

I think anyone who owns a 360 and is playing it on a SDTV is really missing out.

I thought it was the same markup for retailers. I don't think it can be denied that the 60GB is by far the more popular SKU.

You definetely want to have a HDTV if you're going to buy a 360. On SDTV, you still notice things like the framerate, animation, etc. but you really need that HDTV to bring out the high rez.

Don't know for sure, but I think retailers probably get slightly more per 60GB system sold than the 20GB system. I think the 360 was like this (although the difference was kind of small).

Without knowing what Sony is selling the PS3s for to retailers, it would be difficult to know for sure.

FWIW, I don't necessarily doubt that the 60GB PS3 is the more popular SKU out of the early adopters.

I didn't read the whole thread but I know know that 4 out of 4 families that played my Wii on New Years Eve at a party have now purchased Wii's for themselves and previously were not "video game" playing families.

The fun factor and interactivity is what is drawing people in. They don't care about HD graphics or blueray etc.

They had fun and bought one (after searching and waiting) and love them.

Buying a PS3 doesn't make you 'diehard'. The only people that believe that are...well, the people that only have PS3s.

For example, there are some people out there that bought a PS3 mainly for the Blu Ray player. These are hardly diehard gamers.

The 'diehard' BS is just what Sony desperately wants people to believe.

I don't really care how those publications review gaming systems. They're don't specialize in that area, so why listen to them when you're making such a big purchase?

My favorite game is currently Dead Rising. It's available only on 360. Halo 3 will only be available only on 360. All the games I love that were once exclusive to Sony [Virtua Fighter, Devil May Cry, GRAND THEFT FREAKING AUTO] looks like they're coming to the 360.

PS3, right now has 2 games really worth playing, NBA2K7 [available on 360] and Resistance...and I got bored with Resistance after a week.

Wii is winning because of one thing...the price. Please don't get it twisted. Why are all these Wii people catching feelings? You guys need hugs? :D

i wouldn't say price is the only reason why wii is winning. Price is a big factor, but it's only part of the equation. Hype, family-centric attractiveness, innovative gameplay, ect

If price was the only reason, then how do you explain people paying 2x retail price for them on ebay/craigslist?

I can see the Wii's "novelty" effect wearing off in a few months. Like any other consoles it's a combination of price and game library that will drive sales.

I don't know about "diehard," but I'm thinking that hardcore gamers (those who like Madden/NBA2K/WE/etc., GTA, Halo, GT, Final Fantasy, Oblivion, etc.) might appreciate the 360/PS3 more so than the Wii (although they'd probably end up getting both to satisfy their gaming needs). Seems like it would be easier to find more "epic" games on those systems than the Wii. Not to say that the Wii won't have them (Zelda disproves that), or even that PS3/360 games can't be fun, simple games, but that seems to be case generally speaking.

BTW, I really like the amount of participation and discussion going on in this thread, even though we may all have differing opinions.

I didn't realize Karraker had a history of this sort of thing:

Maybe they should just fire him instead of the whole PR staff...although I'm pretty sure the others have said equally stupid things.

That's what I'm trying to say. The Wii is a novelty...I want them to prove me wrong. When they come out with some must-have games with some depth, I'll gladly eat crow. Until then, I consider it a toy.

It's nice to be able to converse with a normal person rather than people who are loyal to these megacorporations who really don't care what you do as long as you buy their product. I'm looking at you Meowgi. :p

Oh and about my "real games" statement...imagine someone trying to say rock skipping is as real a game as basketball. They're both fun, I guess...it's just a matter of if you enjoy simple, easy to pick up entertainment that you'll probably get tired of real quick, or if you want something with a little more substance.

I have all three (ps3, wii, and 360). PS3, although it is good, is by far the worst of the three. I am much happier with my wii.
