If there were a "Nuggets" for Corporate Rock this song would have to be on it. And if I could carry a tune I would sing this in karaoke every time:eek::eek::eek:

That's my gripe with a lot of recent music, starting with grunge and carrying into the 21st century. Down, down, down. Where's the singalong stuff? Where's the Birdhouse in Your Soul, Rock Lobster, One Week? I admit that I'm a huge fan of bands that have a sense of humor and have fun, upbeat tones- Smithereens, Cheap Trick, Ramones, Weezer, Talking Heads, Springsteen, J. Geils (especially J. Geils!!), They Might Be Giants, Beach Boys, The Cars, etc. You have hit the nail on the friggin' head, brother- too much cynicism.

Well after the trainwreck of her 4th album, she released a follow-up, I believe 5 years later that wasn't so "poppy" but was still scorned by her long-time fans. Then in 2010, she released an album that was supposedly "experimental" (but probably only to her) and it was like an internet-only release. Read on pitchfork (which gave her self-titled album a 0.0 out of 10 compared to "Exile in Guyville" which received a 9.6) that she lost her record label over this album. If there ever was an example of an artist that lost their way and developed the Steve Blass disease for music, it has to be unequivocally Liz Phair.

("Scary Spice" ... forgot about those silly theme nicknames lol.) OH yeah, she's a sexpot for sure. (That shoulda been her nickname, Sexpot Spice).

"Sporty Spice" was just a bad concept from the get. I gave her a sympathy liking cuz I felt bad. You got all these hot bombshell babes in sexy feminine attire, then a sporty girl all roughing it in track paints and wifebeaters not EVEN fitting in. Might as well have tossed in a Gardener Spice, or a Marcia Brady Spice
I'm with ya all the way.

Oookay, forced it out of me. You guys are just UNRELENTING here...

I listened to this at work on more than one occassion. I'd MUCH rather admit to liking Peter Cetera 10 times over than freaking Barry Manilow

    (yes, Meatloaf sang it first)

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Wovq1hgSMAE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And while we're on the Jim Steinman produced acts, I didnt think Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" was as bad as people make it out to be ... Well I came in here with a man card, not sure I'll leave the thread with it.

    70s Schlock at its finest:

All guilty pleasures. However, one song that always get lumped in with the "cheesy" songs of the 70s is Lonely Boy from Andrew Gold- they are TOTALLY off on that, it's one of the great "top 40" songs of the 70s:

Everything from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack- it's admittedly one of my fave CDs from the 70s:

    Probably Maroon 5 songs.
I know what it is, but can't help it.

Adam Levine really has a solid voice though.

I think that comes in with the bands dando mentioned earlier, ones that are just having fun with the music.

This song has got tons of tongue-in-cheekiness about it that makes it fun to listen to even for a jaded old rocker like me.

Another song I wont turn off if it comes on that ashames me mightily is Careless Whisper from Wham.

oh god, I hate even typing that, but I cant seem to turn off the song.:(

I could be wrong - I'm kinda getting a sense maybe music now has gotten so bland/non-relatable or even BAD, that some of those older poppy songs actually hold up better than they'd seem.

I'm not going to put down music to help justify my terrible guilty pleasures :p I already acknowledge that Barry Manilow and Peter Cetera wouldnt break through in today's music industry. But does Bruno Mars even convey 1/3 the soul of George Michael? "Bruno" who? Exactly...

Wow, thinking back really regrettably put too much interest in these tunes... :(

And yes I watched the movie. It was on Disney Channel, and I was bored, ok? And Hillary Duff isn't bad looking...

...I hate myself for liking this song.

i didnt see the movie, but almost every time I see a hilary duff vid, I stay watching it, but I dont have any of her songs on my computer, and yes Hilary Duff is not bad looking.

    Especially these two:

I like the lyrics on this one:

I noticed i've been listening to 99.1 quite a bit more. :( They were playing Hold on by Wilson Philips. I hate that song, but it's just so fun to sing. Especially when there are people in your car that know that song. It's embarrassing, yes.

I like Jesse McCartney. If he comes on 104, or 1590, I turn up my dial just a bit more, but not loud enough where someone on the outside can hear it.

The chick in the Leavin' video is pretty cute.

Taylor Swift is actually pretty good stuff.
