I liked the song as well. It played during the end credits of Karate Kid II and I would jump around in my martial arts outfit and sing along (I was like 6 years old).

I never knew that, makes sense. That was my opinion of her at the time, indie rocker unlikely coming back as an older Avril Lavigne. Which was okay for me for babe purposes since Avril was barely out of pedo-zone at the time

(Would Avril Lavigne songs count for this thread?)

On the "back then" thing again, back then it seemed adult contemporary sound was more accepted, and by people old AND young. And it was also okay that it was performed by *gasps...* adults who looked like adults ... Now that may come as a big shock, regular people making regular music without pretense. But there was a time this kind of thing was allowed in society.

People like Peter Cetera and Pointer Sisters for instance, I seriously doubt would have a career in this current music climate. Thats kinda unfortunate

Why in the world would you be ashamed of the B-52s??? That's an outstanding band right there, they could kick the a**es of numerous bands out there today. I went to see them at the House of Blues in Vegas back in 2009 and they STILL brought it. Sorry, but you're way off on that one- Rock Lobster is seriously an excellent song.

There was a time when I couldn't stop singing "Yatta!" over an over. And I don't even speak Japanese.

    I am ashamed.

Hey, they wouldn't even get airplay today. Music today is way too cynical to be fun just for the sake of it. You're preaching to the choir bro.

Is it wrong for me to admit that I have every song on this thread on my ipod already?

And the Katie Perry "fireworks" video is hilarious! Fireworks coming out of everywhere.:grin:

The funny thing, Shroop Dawg (I just love saying that, hehe) is that on Liz Phair's wikipedia page, it talked about that maligned album (the 4th one aka self-titled). Apparently, she ran out of money that was budgeted for the album and the only way that she was allowed to finish the album was to agree to do about 3 or 4 songs written by the Matrix. At least that is her story, lol.

EDIT - here is more about it:

Initially, Phair worked on tracks for the album with songwriter Michael Penn as the producer, but the finished album received a lukewarm reception from Capitol. Having already exhausted the recording budget, label president Andy Slater offered Phair more money to record if she agreed to work on possible singles with the production team known as The Matrix. The Matrix was known primarily for producing glossy hits for female singers such as Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, and Hilary Duff. Phair ultimately collaborated with The Matrix on four songs: "Why Can't I?", "Extraordinary", "Favorite", and "Rock Me".

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Phair_(album)

I wonder what that album would have sounded like without those 4 songs and instead songs by Michael Penn. But instead we get a Liz Phair that sounded nothing like her previous self, sorta like seeing Fergie on American Idol last night who looked NOTHING like herself!

Sporty Spice was my favorite. I thought she was the best singer and cute. I liked Baby Spice, too.
