Ok smartypents. I don't know you ever played basketball before. When you rebound, you concentrate on the ball and go all out for the ball. It's really common in the NBA people bump into their teammates in the midair when going for the ball. If what you construe "behind those words" is true, then Yao is complaining about his own weakness against his teammate in the press. This not only makes him a very selfish player, and an ultimate whiner. What? you want the ball go get the ball. Do you want people to bash Yao or bash you? pick your poison. BTW, I doubt the reporter, CHEN MING, ever played competitive basketball. These chinese reports are not NEWS, they are their own speculations.
Good post. If Yao is indeed saying these things to the Chinese media, but not the American media, then he is indeed a whiner for hiding behind them. More of a reason not to believe it in the first place. Seeing as how Yao doesnt seem to be this type of person, I would chalk this up to his comments a) Being taken out of context or worse b) Being fabricated. I seriously doubt that Yao holds a grudge against Cato for accidentally bumping him.
I just read article, Yao Ming said nothing that would seem like he's angry at Cato, it's only the reporter trying to write sensational stuff... nothing to worry about here.
After reading Chinese newspaper quotes and US quotes, I'm of the opinion that Yao has multiple personality issues. I swear I sometimes wonder if they're talking about the same guy.
I mean, if Cato is trying to steal stats from Yao, it at least means he's working overtime, that's fine. what's funny though is that Yao was like "man I couldn't shoot tonight, I'm disappointed." He was 7-11! I guess I wanted more of like 9-11.
judging from the chinese article, i think: 1) the reporter is making **** up and dreaming up conspiracies out of his ass. 2) the reporter is over-reading yao's frustration and looking for someone to blame. (because of course it can't be yao's fault!). 3) yao is simply unused to someone having his back and giving him some friendly competition. having a teammate contesting a rebound with you or helping with a weakside block is something to be thankful for, not be mad about. yao should know better than this.
I hate unprofessional chinese reporters, I hate stupid (yao-only) fans. But for what it's worth, and for the reputation of Yao Ming, I'll do a public service, translating YM's quotes in that article. People can make their own judgement about what's "behand those words", and see if I'm "stupid" enough not seeing what Roxbigfan can see... YM: Todays defeat is a big hit upon us. YM: Yes, I'm a bit tired in the fourth quarter, but not that tired even if I has played more minutes. (sigh). My (ft) accuracy wa off today, clanged several times, and my confidence was not that high. My defense was OK, but when we trailed and not looking catching up, I'm...not phisically tired, but...very frustrated. YM: Not that I get too many this time, but too few last game (refering to his rebounding). JVG to YM: be more aggressive on the offensive rebounding, don't just stay behind (the ball). YM: rebound is one of my weakness, mainly because the jumping ability and strength of the back/waist. Many times in rebounding, I get the position, lean on opponent using my weight, best if we both can't jump--so that I can fully take advantage of my height. But by doing that, I will lose the highest point of contention, then lose the rebound, sometimes to opponent, other times to my teammates. YM: We all see what (Cato) did this year. He is our biggest find. YM: JVG didn't say let Cato get more rebound, let me do more of the other things. As a center, I sure hope I get as many rebounds as possible. (when asking if JVG has a strategy of letting Cato get more rebounds.) The paragraph before this quote: Once in the defensive rebounding, there was actually just Yao and Cato in the backcourt. Then Cato bumpped forward, Yaoming lost his rebounding position and the ball fell into Cato's hand. Yao seems frustrated as he walk up the court. ---> I don't know if this was true in the game, as I didn't watch the game. The rest of the article is just drama queen trash, (include something like you can see ...(too ridiculous, I will skip)....in Cato's eye as he watchs on Yaoming being surrounded by the media.) not worth translating.
I can see what the problem is, they must have translated it as YM: We all see what (Cato) did this year. He is our biggest fiend Problem solved!!!!
Once I was Chinese and I still couldn't learn it in an hour. It is some tough ****. I think even if I was still Chinese I wouldn't know how to read it. I would be like.... yeah I'm gonna stick with American....
And this lead me to believe you intentionally stir things up around here as you think only a small bunch of Chinese member can actually read the article. I suggest Clutch to ban you troll from now on.
