It's nearly February and you folks are STILL ragging on JVG? Whatever for? And what does that have to do with anything that's going on NOW?

No, I meant the myth you spread about JVG's team wouldn't have allowed 30 points in 4th quarters two games in a row, which was soundly debutted by DD. Instead of doging that, why not step up and admit that you were wrong?

JVG's a mediocre coach. 52 wins with two superstars are good, but nothing spectacular.

Doc Rivers once took an all scrub team to the playoffs, which is a bigger treat than JVG winning 52 games, because JVG had two superstars to work with. Still, Doc Rivers is a medicore coach, which in turn means JVG is a mediocre coach. A mediocre coach who hasn't won anything in four years here, and left a team with no depth and no prospects whatsoever behind, guess what, that coach's name is JVG.

JVG won some regular season games by riding T-Mac's jock, he's nothing without Tracy McGrady. Doc Rivers could win a playoffs seed without T-Mac, JVG can retire without T-Mac.

Oh, and quit making JVG out to be this defensive King, any average coach can play defense with a 7-6 giant, along with sacrificing offense by inserting 2 defensive players in the starting lineup. Simply because JVG stockpiled defensive players in the starting lineup at the cost of great offense doesn't make him out to be a defensive genius that guys like Angkor Wat imagines.

What the hell are you talking about? Yao missed 32 games last season.

I was comparing two mediocre coaches Doc Rivers and JVG. Doc Rivers took a scrub team to the playoffs, JVG rode T-Mac's jock and had Yao for 50 games. JVG is nothing without T-Mac, get it down your system and your life will be easier without JVG.

jvg plays rookies if the rookie's work.........luther head got time, carl landry is a JVG type player, he definitely would have gotten time, so would brooks cuz mike james would just piss jvg off.

I really focused on Novak during the game. He was on AK most of the time and AK covered him...

On offense, after he hit a couple of buckets, AK stayed pretty damn close to him on the perimeter keeping him from doing what he does best with a lot of help defense and weakside blocks. That really opened it up for Brooks to penetrate...

On defense, he didn't help out a whole lot or make any big plays, but he also didn't make any bonehead plays. I think he left his man for too long once and cost us a single bucket.

He really wasn't that big of a liability on D and really helped to spread the floor on O and keep AK from doing his thing.

That was in the old NBA a decade ago. JVG's grind it out style fitted that era and his team. That 8th seeded Knick team underperformed in the regular season because injuries and Ewing in and out of the lineups, once they found their identity they started to take off. That team had talent. Latrel Spreewel, Marcus Camby, Allan Houston and Larry Johnson played great games in the playoffs. JVG certainly gets credit for it, but it was ten years ago. Rudy got two rings and went bad later, the same goes for JVG. Anyway, JVG started to rely too much on T-Mac to the point he couldn't win regular games without him. He was nothing without T-Mac.

What you would never see... Rockets actually have an offense without T-Mac.

I hated Rudy T as a coach. Shaq used to say he admired Rudy because the only thing he would hear from their end was "Get Hakeem the f__ ball!!!". That was basically his whole game plan, and once he lost that it was painfully obvious he had no clue how about strategy and coaching. Kenny Smith says he's a "player's coach", which is just a nice way of saying that he didn't know squat so he just let the players decide how to set up the offense. Hakeem was the single most force behind those championships; we would have gotten them Rudy T or no.

Let's just say if Yao misses 32 games the rest of the way we aren't winning 52 games this year. We will be extremely lucky to win 52 games if there are no more injuries. I'm glad we have managed to win a few games without Tmac, but with the upgrade in talent on paper and the hope that Yao wouldn't miss almost half the season, I expected us to do better than last year regardless of the coach.

I find this to be quite hypocritical. Isn't it Rick Adelman's job to get the most out of his roster since this is what you find JVG most guilty of? Look at it however you want, but right now we are most likely looking at another first round exit at best if we can sneak into the playoffs. Adelman only proves his worth to me if he can get us past the 1st round THIS season. Adelman wasn't hired to breakdown and rebuild, he was hired to take us to the next level. And Rookies qualify as talent; its implied that they dont have experience. You give coaches credit for developing rookies, but also allow it as an excuse for them when their team is underperforming?

We had a new coach in town and a new complex system to pick up. A year with a major regime change certainlty deserves more leeway.

If after 4 years Adleman can't get out of the first round, and leaves us with a team that has no deapth nor prospects, then he will suck as much as JVG.

If one coach is fired for "under performing", and the next coach comes in and does worse, then obviously it wasn't the coach. You act like the team JVG took over was the defending western conference champions rather than a team that had been in the lottery for four years prior. I hope Adelman does do better than JVG in his playoff success. His roster certainly is improved enough that he should.

nothing to see here...it's all about digging in on a position and defending it to any end.

I can't wait till you follow this up with another, "i really didn't dislike JVG" post.

Coaches are paid to win games. When they lose games, they lose their job. You wanted him to intentionally lose the game for the good of the franchise. Good luck with that. You've taken this to such an end that it's nonsensical.

The roster is deeper and we're not any better. Yao has been healthy, and we're not any better. If RA gets them to 52 wins and a first round exit then he hasn't done what you and Les said he'd do. He was brought in to improve them IMMEDIATELY. They played great last night, and I'm hoping that's the start of something.

22nd in winning % in nba history is mediocre?
guess making the playoffs 9 out of 10 times sucks too huh (and the once was due to severe injuries). you can not like him, but dont be stupid and say he's mediocre

true. it would be nice if that position was based on more than a personal dislike, but oh well...not everyone can separate personal feelings with reality

signed pistons, heat and spurs

exactly. its so sad that people still fail to see that the rockets OVERachieved the last few years. I know our rockets homerism can get in the way, but objectively, the rockets had no business actually competiting as much as they did with as little talent as they did. It's almost JVGs fault because he overachieved so much people started to "expect" more and more...but all the juice had already been squeezed out of those rosters.

Its just flat out ignorant, and purely based on personal reasons (not reality), to not respect and admire the job jvg did with the team he had.

I still expect this team to compete in the playoffs and I am actually more confident than the past because this team has more, and better players to step up if/when yao and tmac struggle. Although the rockets probably would have beat the jazz if they had a yao at 100% last year
