The Rockets do not receive increased television revenue for games broadcast in China. ALL television revenues outside a 30-mile radius around the center of Houston go directly to the NBA where they are split equally among all 29 teams. If I am not mistaken, even the revenue from merchandising is split but the team gets a higher percentage for sales of its own stuff. The NBA, however, controls all broadcast revenues beyond that 30-mile radius for TV and beyond 60 miles for radio and those are the biggest hunks of revenue for the NBA. Thing is, for the first few years in the arena, the Rockets will not be making money. It takes several years to recoup all of the losses from construction, hiring new employees, etc. As long as Yao continues to develop, the Rockets will make a ton of money, but most of it won't happen for 2 to 3 years AFTER the arena opens. Plus, there is a difference between the vast majority of owners in the league and guys like Cuban and Paul Allen. Those two are independantly wealthy beyond belief. Other teams still need to have the revenues to justify the expenditures. With Cuban and Allen, they could easily lose money every year on the team and still pay the luxury tax because their personal pockets are much deeper than the rest of the league.
If we get Brand and Pike for Cat and Eddie, get ready for the Western Conference finals my friends!!!! NO ONE... and I mean NO ONE will be able to have a good game against our front court! All the PFs that killed us earlier will get eaten alive if they tried that cr@p again! Amare, Karl, Gasol, your days of dominating against us are over. I really hope this deal happens otherwise I am gonna be extremely dissapointed. There are not many chances for a franchise to fulfill its missing piece and there is no better fit to the Rox than Brand (especially considering what were giving up). GO ROX!!!!! P.S. I live in LA and if this deal goes through, I will definitely fly up to Houston for a couple of the play off games..
Griffen knows his role??? This is the FIRST game of the year that he even resembled a starting PF. The guy thinks he's Rasheed Wallace taking all those jumpers...
Check and mate. But I'd still hold it against Les if such a trade didn't happen for potential contract reasons. Yao won't get extended for a few years, by which time Rice will be off the books. Anyway, you've got to spend it to make it!
Kinda off the subject a lil bit, but seeing the statement Cluthc made about Les being pretty livid about the Dallas game do you think some kinda "threat" was made by Les, Rudy, or whoever saying that same changes would be made if the team's play didn't turn around ASAP. For example what if the players were told "The Clips are dangling Brand for the right price and we have the price they're looking for(Griff, Mobley, etc). Unless you guys show management something good before the allstar break some changes are about to happen" Just a thought i had with the Brand rumor coming up and the recent turn around of play.
Yao Ming is a monster on rebound just by nature of his mammoth size and his not yet fully developed athleticism. But with rebounding insights by "Rockets E Brand", Yao may develop into THE REBOUNDER SECOND TO NONE!!!
Do the Clipper fans have a site like ours? It might be a good idea for someone to check if any of them are talking about this "proposed trade".
Pipe dreams are fine for this forum -- putting some pipe in my dream is that this deal would have to be orchestrated by FALK. If he decided it were to be done then thy will be done.
I don't know if there is any truth to this rumor, but only sentimental reasons would keep me from making this trade. From a basketball standpoint, a Mobley/Griffin swap for Brand is a no-brainer. Pairing superstar big men together throughout the primes of their careers hasn't been done in decades - in other words, if the opportunity presents itself, you do it. Imagine trying to stop both Shaq and Garnett or Duncan and Nowitzki on the same team. Once Yao matures by next year, this is basically the same concept. Not to mention the fact that they still have a superstar guard in the backcourt who would become even more effective as 99% of the penetrating opportunities would go to him. Bottom line is that it'd be sad to see Mobley and Griffin go, but 22 year old Yao and 23 year old Brand up front together for the next decade should be outlawed.
Did I forget to mention that once you have Yao Ming, Elton Brand, and Steve Francis on your team, you can sign any free agent role player who wants a ring to cap his career or increase his market value? As in Kevin Willis to the Rockets or Rick Fox to the Lakers? So it hardly matters who you give up in this trade.
Until I hear about this trade from David Falk I am chalking it up to drivel. But, let's just say it's true, just for fun, how does Falk (and the Rox) get MoT moved out?
first off i'm tired of reading eddie had "his best game ever" every time he plays well. sure he's far from mr. consistency but he has had his share of good games. i think people are very unfair when judging someone whose 20-years old. he's played better than both kwame and chandler at this stage of their careers and is only getting better. that being said i trade him every day of the week for elton brand if he can be resigned. elton and yao is just plain nasty right now and for the next 10 years. however this team isn't even close to the rent a superstar for a year and go for it stage should elton want to walk in the offseason. anyways if nothing happens i am perfectly happy to go with exactly what we have. remember yao is only a rookie and the rocket's have played with him as the new offensive centerpiece for a mere half-season. we have a great looking team either way.
